English PEN events for December 2016

The latest English PEN newsletter gives details of two events in December, Penelope Fitzgerald a celebration and their Annual General Meeting:

Buy tickets now Penelope Fitzgerald: a celebration Tuesday 6 December 2016 7:00 pm—8:15 pm | £5 Free Word Centre, 60 Farringdon Road, London EC1R 3GA     On the centenary of the novelist Penelope Fitzgerald’s birth, biographer Professor Dame Hermione Lee, novelist Michèle Roberts and publisher Stuart Proffitt will discuss her life and work. With readings by actor Diana Quick.   Penelope Fitzgerald was a novelist, biographer, and essayist, and one of the most distinctive voices in British fiction. Three of her novels, The Bookshop, The Beginning of Spring and The Gate of Angels were shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and she won the Prize in 1979 for Offshore. Her last novel, The Blue Flower, was chosen no fewer than 19 times in the press as the Book of the Year in 1995. It won America’s National Book Critics’ Circle Award.
