April In Heaven @ Seven

On Monday 4 April, 8pm, the Screen Seven movie is brilliant Argentinian anthology film, Wild Tales, directed by Damián Szifrón. Wild Tales is a raucously entertaining collection of "six deadly stories of revenge", of lives destroyed by parking fines, of road-rage insults escalating into apocalyptic duel-like confrontations, of white wedding parties descending into something more akin to the final scenes from Carrie – all defined by the sudden and violent breakdown of “polite” behaviour. 2 hr 02 min. Subtitles. £6 / £5 conc.

Café Economique  on Tuesday 5 April, 7.30pm, looks at Global Capitalism. In this talk Hugo Radice will outline the causes and consequences of the ‘ globalisation ‘ of capitalism. He will argue that globalisation, when considered together with the revival of liberal economic thinking, has transformed relations between business, organised labour and the state. £4 on the door.

On Thursday 7 April, 8pm, Seven welcomes John Law’s New Congregation – ‘These Skies In Which We Rust’ . John’s new double album contains hard-hitting, simple melodies as well as complex textures, featuring electronic music backing tracks, mixing in elements from classical and rock as well. All with brilliant instrumental playing by all four members of the band. £11 adv / £13 on the door.

Rounding off the week on Saturday 9 April, 8.30pm, music of a different genre as Tumbleweedamericana presents Amy Speace   'Amy Speace channels the classics' - Billboard Magazine. 'Grace over drama' - Jon Pareles, New York Times. '4 Stars' - Maverick magazine. ‘Speace might just be on the brink of a major break-through’ – R2. Not to be missed. 10 adv / £12 otd. 8pm doors.
