2016 Writing Competitions
We
are delighted to announce that the 2016 Ilkley Literature Festival
writing competitions are now open for entries.
The
Poetry and Short Story competitions are open to anyone aged over 18
and entries can be on any subject. The judges for the competitions will
be announced soon and previous winners have gone on to publish their
work. Shortlisted writers will have the chance to read their work at
Ilkley Literature Festival in October.

Appy for a Words in the City Micro-Commission
Do
you have a great idea for a new creative event, art project or
performance based on poetry or spoken word?
Do
you need a small amount of financial support to realise your idea?
Are
you based in Bradford or have a strong connection to the city?
We’re
offering 3
awards of up to £500 to support poets and artists to
create new work that can be shared or performed at Words in the City
2016 part of the Bradford
Festival, 8-10 July.

Could you be Apprentice to Poet in Residence Andrew
McMillan?
Applications for 2016 Apprentice Poet in Residence are now open.
The Festival’s Apprentice Poet in Residence is an
opportunity for an exceptional, emerging poet who is based in the
Northern region and at the start of their career. As Apprentice Poet
in Residence they will shadow this year’s Poet in Residence, Guardian
First Book award winner and one time ILF Apprentice Poet himself, Andrew McMillan.
The apprentice will also spend time at Festival events and stage
their own Fringe or other reading/event/workshop as appropriate.

Festival Staff News
Due to an
organisational restructure carried out by the Festival's Board of
Trustees, Festival Manager Gail Price will be leaving the Festival at
the end of March. Gail has been with the Festival since 2004 and has
been a key member of the Festival team during that time. The Board
wish to thank her for her considerable contribution to the past
successes of the Festival and wish her well for the future.

Jane
Eyre at Cast, Doncaster
Join Northern Ballet as the company return to Cast in Doncaster to
present the World Première of Jane Eyre from Thu 19 - Sat 21 May.
Coinciding with the 200th anniversary of Charlotte Brontë’s birth,
the ‘best dance actors in the world’ (Dance Europe) bring to life
the ultimate dramatic tale of romance, jealousy and dark secrets.

Writing
on Air. A Literature Festival on the Radio.
Writing
on Air, Chapel
FM’s first three day literature festival broadcast
live on radio takes place from Fri 15 - Sun 17 April.
Writing on Air features short stories, radio drama, poetry, script
writing, poetry slam, discussions, open mic, on-air
masterclasses and an all-night Readathon.
