Years' War @ Seven
Sadly not a sea of
poppies, but Seven marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WW1
with two great pieces of theatre, The Hundred Years' War (13
Nov) and Clamber Up The Crucifux (21
Nov).
Tonight, Thursday 13
November, 7.30pm, The Hundred Years’ War is
a new poetry-theatre piece that uses forty poems composed around war from
1914 to 2013 as the basis for a deeply moving portrayal of our lives under
fire. Three performers, live and recorded music, striking images are all
combined to create a heart-wrenching drama whose every word is charged
with poetry. Described by audience-members at a performance last
night as ‘overwhelmed’, ‘amazing’, ‘thought provoking’. £10 / £8 conc
On Friday 14 November,
8.30pm, it's Frailty, an
acoustic 4-some ranging across territory staked out by Brel, Newman,
Waits, and the anonymous folk balladeers of UK and Europe. Love, death,
and surviving it all. Maggi Stratford, vocal; Dave Bowie Jr, double bass;

On Monday 17 November,
8pm, the Screen Seven movie is Gravity, a
heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving
realm of deep space. Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant
medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut
Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk,

The UK Jewish Film Festival returns on Tuesday
18 November, 8pm, with Mr Kaplan.
Jacob Kaplan lives an ordinary life in Uruguay. He fled Europe for South
America because of World War II. But now turning 76, he’s grumpy and in
need of adventure. An opportunity to achieve greatness comes in the form
of a quiet, elderly German, who Mr. Kaplan believes to be a runaway
Nazi. £7 /£6 conc.
On Wednesday 19
November, 8pm, Gillie Kleiman and Eleanor Sikorski present
pop-musical, A Lyrical Dance Concert -
A Pop-musical Cabaret. Number-by-ridiculous-number,
the lyrics of chart hits past and present are danced out, stretched,
turned, lifted and thrown. Giggle along with this mixed-up whirlwind of
glamorous divas. Promises to be a great night. £8 / £6 conc.
On Thursday 20
November, 8.30pm, it's Seven Jazz concert, 'Partisans' with Julian Seigel
and Phil Robson. Energetic performances of tightly knit
themes and groove-based sound bridge the gap between New York swing,
European improv and UK jam band. Since 1996, the jazz-rock quartet has
been thrilling audiences. £16/£14

On Friday 21 November,
8pm, look forward to Off the Fence - Clamber Up
the Crucifix The play explores the life of a
telegraph key operator and the mind of an ordinary soldier caught up in
the long waits interspersed with the terrifying bombardments of life at
the Front. One actor, five different roles. Gritty reminder of life for
millions of young men a century ago. £9 /£7.
Rounding off the week on Saturday
22 November, 8.30pm, Tumbleweed Promotions presents The Wild Ponies.
The Wild Ponies are Doug & Telisha Williams from Nashville, where
they have built a huge reputation with their shows featuring their quirky
take on ‘alt’ country. ‘Things That Used To Shine’, their new album is a
real treat and this tour will feature the full trio with Jake Winebrenner
on drums. 8.30pm Tickets :
