New Writing North are delighted to present this special event with
broadcaster and journalist Sali
Hughes, to celebrate the publication of her new book, Pretty Honest.
In Pretty Honest,
Sali Hughes debunks the myth that women can’t be interested in beauty and
‘serious issues’ too and draws on over 20 years of wisdom, advice and
expertise to show women how to make the most of make-up’s physically and
emotionally transformative powers. It’s a work that is part instruction
manual, part love letter to make-up – in a writing style that combines
beauty editor, feminist and painfully funny best friend.
Sali is the resident beauty columnist on The Guardian Weekend and a regular
on-air contributor to Radio 4’s Woman’s
Hour, The Today Programme and You & Yours. She has made many TV
appearances, discussing current affairs, women’s issues, style and
celebrity.
We had originally hoped to be able to programme Sali as part of the
Durham Book Festival but sadly this wasn't possible so we're delighted to
have been given the opportunity to host this event in Newcastle, when she
will be in conversation with Marie Nixon, talking feminism and beauty and
answering your questions too. |
