The LIFF Presents
line-up for March includes Red Rocket and The Worst Person in the
World
LIFF Presents is the year-round
series of film previews hand-picked and presented by Leeds
International Film Festival and we have four announced already
for 9 and 23 March. The rousing British comedy The Phantom of the Open, starring Mark Rylance and Sally Hawkins, and Red Rocket, the new film from Sean Baker (Tangerine, The
Florida Project) are both screening on 9 March.
On 23 March you can see the
enthralling Croatian ‘sunshine noir’ Murina, the outstanding
debut feature from Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović and winner of the
Camera d’Or at Cannes 2021. You can also see The
Worst Person in the World, the highly-anticipated
new film from Joachim Trier (Oslo, 31 August) and starring
Renate Reinsve who won Best Actress award at Cannes 2021.

LIFF Presents: The Duke – coming to cinemas
only from 25 February
The next LIFF Presents preview at Vue in The
Light on 23 February is a rousing true-crime caper and
underdog tale about the theft of Goya’s portrait of The
Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in 1961.
Coming to cinemas only from 25 February,
The Duke – starring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren -
was filmed in Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate including at
Hyde Park Picture House, Whitelock’s Ale House and Cartwright
Hall.

LIFF Presents: Great Freedom - screening as
part of LGBTQ+ History Month
The exquisite new film from Sebastian Meise,
Great Freedom paints a stirring portrait of gay resistance
and resilience in post-war Germany as one man is repeatedly
imprisoned under Paragraph 175 - a law criminalizing
homosexual activity. You can see a LIFF Presents preview of

The INDIs Festival on Leeds Film Player
Over 30 films
from The INDIs Festival will be available on Leeds Film Player from 18 February until 20 March. This year's
Official Selection covers a fascinating range of topics,
from climate change to sexuality to activism across the
world. With visions of our future riffing against the
questions of today, these are films full of wonder. In
addition, the programme includes Cult Classics, Docs and
Retrospectives. Passes are available.

Petite Maman comes to MUBI on 18 February
LIFF 2021 audience favourite Petite Maman, the
sublime modern fairytale from Céline Sciamma (Portrait
of a Lady on Fire, Girlhood), is coming
exclusively to curated streaming service MUBI on February 18. After
the death of her beloved grandmother, eight-year-old Nelly
meets a mysterious friend in the woods. Together they
embark on a fantastical journey of discovery which helps
Nelly come to terms with this newfound loss.

LIFF 2021 Favourite Flee now on general
release
Flee, the extraordinary, Oscar-nominated
animated documentary by Danish filmmaker Jonas Poher
Rasmussen is getting a general release in February after
previewing at LIFF in November. The film tells the
desperately moving story of the director’s friend, a gay
Afghan man who escaped Kabul as a child and ended up in
Copenhagen after a difficult and dangerous journey.

Hyde Park Picture House: On the Road
Hyde Park Picture House's touring On the Road
programme continues, with a Special Preview Screening of Clio
Barnard's Ali & Ava on Wed 2
March at City Varieties Music Hall, with the offer of up
to two free tickets for anyone aged 16-30 years old who
quotes 'ALIAVA2022'. Acclaimed new features including
Japanese animation Belle, Pedro Almodóvar's Parallel
Mothers and Joanna Hogg's The Souvenir Part II
all have select screenings at Leeds University Union

Drive My Car, Parallel Mothers and more at
Science & Media Museum
There's a chance to see Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s
sublime and richly complex drama Drive My Car, as
Science & Media Museum presents a screening on Wed
23 February at its Pictureville Cinema. An adaptation of a
Haruki Murakami short story probing the subtleties of love
and loss, the LIFF 2021 favourite has four Oscar
nominations. Pedro Almodóvar's Parallel Mothers and
climbing documentary Torn also screen in
February.

The Real Charlie Chaplin and more at Hebden
Bridge Picture House
This month's unique programme of selections at
Hebden Bridge Picture House includes the new documentary The
Real Charlie Chaplin, about the life and career of the
legendary silent film star and comedian. Also screening
are Petrov's Flu - a deadpan,
hallucinatory romp through post-Soviet Russia - the
mesmerising Memoria and The Souvenir Part II.
