Publishing: Beyond the Mainstream
Q&A WITH AUTHORS ALICE JOLLY AND J. DAVID SIMONS

Tuesday 8 February  6 - 7:30 pm

Should I self-publish? How much will it cost? What is hybrid publishing?  Is a small indie a good choice? Can I crowdfund a novel?

In this live Q&A session on Zoom, authors Alice Jolly and J. David Simons discuss various ways of getting published beyond the mainstream, such as self-publishing or working with smaller independents, hybrid models and crowdfunders like Unbound.

This is an excellent opportunity to mine the knowledge of two established authors who have had a variety of publishing experiences, so come prepared with lots of questions for David and Alice.

TAKING MATTERS INTO YOUR OWN HANDS

Aside from the obvious benefits of receiving feedback, there is a lot to learn from critiquing the work of other writers. You can join an established workshop by signing up to a creative writing programme or researching online, but often there will be a cost involved. If you’re looking to start your own workshop / reading group with friends, Twitter connections, or writers from your local community, here are some top tips.

Some of us love connecting with other writers and readers on social media, but if you use it purely to maintain a presence as an author, you’re not alone. For those who find social media can be a struggle, here are some tips to help you build a following without adding stress to your life. You might even find you get a real buzz from it!

BPA First Novel Award 2022
DEADLINE: MAY 29

We are now accepting entries to the BPA First Novel Award 2022. Our judges, literary agents Rowan Lawton and Marina de Pass and author Jo Bloom, can't wait to read your stories.

"I want to be thrown headfirst into the story and the action – I would prefer to infer the necessary backstory and set-up later. I want to end up somewhere different from where I started, to have learned something, seen a different perspective, travelled somewhere new, or even just spend more time with an unforgettable character."
Marina de Pass, Judge
