and there are plenty of other activities on offer, many of them

Introduction to Bhangra with
Nisha Lall
Learn this joyous dance style from the Punjab with
Nisha Lall in a welcoming
and fun environment. The session will be tailored to ages seven
years and above but younger children welcome if supervised. Nisha
will also be teaching
Bollywood Dance and Belly Dancing workshops.

Rumi: The Alchemy
of Love

A magical and inspirational performance of the 13th-century poet
Rumi’s
The
Alchemy of Love, curated by MACFest (Muslim Arts and Culture Festival)
in partnership with the Huddersfield Literature Festival
and presented at Sangam Festival.
The Lightless Sky: My Journey to Safety as a Child

At
the age of 12, Gulwali Passarlay was sent from Afghanistan after
his father was killed in a battle with the United States army. He
spent 12 months travelling across Europe, including time in
prison, a terrifying journey across the Mediterranean in a tiny
boat and a month at a camp in Calais.
Eventually he was fostered in Britain and won a
place at a top university. In 2012, he was chosen to carry the
Olympic torch. His powerful memoir celebrates the triumph of
courage over adversity. A Huddersfield Literature Festival event
for Sangam Festival.

A fun, free family activity for the summer holidays!
The
Children’s Art School kicks off a series of
craft workshops, run as part of Sangam Festival. Our first
session is a free drop-in mask-making workshop day, where you can
create a creature from the jungles of South Asia.
Open to families with children of all ages, no booking required.
Run by
The Children’s Art School for Hudd Lit Fest as part of
Sangam Festival.
Suitable
for all ages (Under 16s should be accompanied by an adult)

2021) online and in venues and outdoors across Huddersfield and
Kirklees. Sangam Festival is for anyone who would like to
immerse themselves in the rich history and cultural heritage of
South Asia.

Sangam
Festival includes a host of free events for children and adults, from
dance/craft/poetry workshops to children’s puppet shows and storytelling, to
talks on art from a V&A curator. Plus some ticketed dance/music/comedy and
book-related performances.
It’s
a festival celebrating South Asian art, culture and heritage, with lots of
events that will have interest for the wider population. Most events take place
in the Festival Hub on the Piazza Huddersfield, although some are in North
Kirklees.
