Cleckheaton Writers Group met this evening via Zoom with Andrea, Alice, Ashley, Gemma and Karen in attendance, Sarah having passed on her apologies.
The minutes from the last meeting were passed.
WIP updates: Karen has signed her publishing contract with U.S. publishers Champagne Book Group (eBook due November 2021) and written some new chapters on the sequel. Her MG fantasy MS has been longlisted for the Guppy Open Submissions 2021. She has edited half of that MS and three chapters and the synopsis of her crime novel, plus attended Writing Chance Zoom event hosted by actor Michael Sheen and taken part in #carinapitch on Twitter. She's attended the RNA virtual conference, entered Unidiscovered voices with her YA MS, subbed her crime novel to the Elevate Cornerstones opportunity, entered and won the Masterclass twitter giveaway and entered the twitter Arvon writers week opportunity. Ashley has been working. Karen and Alice recommended Write Magic, a community of writers on Facebook for helping to motivate a writing routine. Gemma has been editing. Alice has also been editing her sci-fi MG and made a start on worldbuilding for a new adventure MG MS. Andrea has been working on ideas for a book for children about animals. Alice recommended looking at mentor texts for MG, teen and YA, including The Boy I Am.
CW comps/workshops/events: The Arvon writers twitter opportunity (deadline today), the Twitter searchlight Writing for Children, bedtime stories opportunity (deadline 16 August) and The Val Wood Prize - uplifting stories (Yorkshire) of 2k words (deadline 31 August).
Writing plans: Karen hopes to edit the second half of her MG MS, edit her crime MS and write more on her rom com sequel. Ashely wants to get into rythmn with her writing. Andrea will be looking at children's books and synopses. Alice and Gemma will be editing.
