 THIS SATURDAY!!

We are so excited to welcome you to our 10th Christmas Fayre on Saturday 5th December 12-4pm. FOUR MORE SLEEPS!
And this year we’re teaming up with our friends at Holbeck Gala so it should be doubly belting.

As Leeds is in Tier 3, the event will look a little different to previous years but it will still be packed with lots of festive fun to kick off the season in style.
This year’s fayre is outside in the car park of The Holbeck so please ensure you come prepared for all weathers!

We have oodles of stalls confirmed with wonderful crafts, bakes, toys, gifts and creative wares, and we are delighted to welcome Backstage Brass to entertain us.

We will be operating a one-way system with numerous hand-sanitising stations throughout the site and we ask that everyone wears a mask at all times.

Our traditional Pay What You Decide hog roast will be available as a takeaway as you exit the grounds.

We’re encouraging people to walk, wheel or cycle to the event wherever possible.
If you are arriving by car we recommend parking for free on Holbeck Moor Road.
Please note the streets around the Club are Permit only and we would hate for you to get a ticket.

If you have specific questions about the event please message Ruth directly on middleton@slunglow.org

We think this year, more than ever before, we need something special to kick-start the festive period and we are so delighted you are going to be a part of it!

See you Saturday!

St Andrew’s Day officially kicks off the festive season for us here at National Museums Scotland. Join us on a virtual tour of objects relating to St Andrew and the well-trodden path between Edinburgh and St Andrews.

This month our Director reflects on our role in reviewing the colonial histories of our collections, inspired by our newly-opened exhibition at the National War Museum, Legacies of Empire.

We know that not everybody is able to travel to visit our museums right now. We are continuing to share our collections online so that you can enjoy them from wherever you are. Head to our website to explore blog posts, behind-the-scenes stories, activities, games and more.

It may look like an average flag, but this Saltire has had quite the journey. This flag has flown outside the Scottish Parliament, spent 12 days on a space shuttle and is now on display at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. What a round trip!

In his latest blog, our Director Dr Chris Breward recounts a recent trip to Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Mumbai and reflects on the colonial legacies that link museums across the world. Acknowledging that Museums are not neutral spaces, he highlights some of the work that National Museums Scotland is undertaking to review its collections from this perspective.

Our new exhibition at the National War Museum examines the stories of objects brought back from colonial conflict by the military forces of the British Empire. Objects include those taken in the aftermath of victory, preserved as relics and memorials, received as diplomatic gifts, and collected or purchased by officers stationed overseas.
