Things to do this week in London

Here are a few ideas of things to do this week in London thanks to Country and Townhouse:

Why CBD-spiked G&Ts should be on your radar,

and the diamond-inspired champagne terrace

popping up in Mayfair

I’m making this month all about the micro break. We’ve all been spending rather a lot of time staring at our own four walls that I’m quite up for staring at someone else’s. To this end London’s glittering grande dame hotels are pulling out all the stops to lure us in to clink champagne glasses with our bubble and let far superior quality sheets caress us for just a night. It’s amazing what a change of scene – even if only for a few hours – can do, so sally forth in safety – these hospitable giants will take the most wonderful care of you and add a bit of real Christmas cheer.

Have a great week.

FIVE THINGS YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS

Scott's Winter Terrace

The award for the glitziest winter terrace in London goes to Scott’s in Mayfair – not surprising given it’s a collaboration with Bvglari and Dom Pérignon. Head through the glittering cascade of crystals covering the restaurant’s entrance for an evening of seafood and champagne.

Unearthed: Photography's Roots

From Victorian calotypes of dahlias to video triptychs of exploding flowers, a new exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery, titled Unearthed: Photography’s Roots, traces the history of photography through images of botany and plants. Image by Richard Learoyd, courtesy of Michael Hoppen Gallery.

Chelsea at Christmas

Chelsea has transformed for the festive season with the likes of an enchanting walk-through forest, 5ft wreaths, and festive entertainment – including live music and carriage rides departing from Sloane Square's Tiffany & Co. A number of Chelsea stores are also providing exclusive seasonal offers – but for those who prefer to shop from home, Cadogan is offering free delivery until Christmas Eve with its zero-emission e-cargo bike. chelseachristmas.co.uk

Burlesque at The Bridge

Wave goodbye to 2020 blues with a night of glamour, feathers and joyful satire at The Bridge Theatre’s two-night burlesque special. It’s the latest production from the trailblazing House of Burlesque, led by Tempest Rose.

Gisburne Park Christmas Pop-Up

Christmas is cancelled? Oh no it isn’t! The creators of the UK’s first socially distanced festival are back with a special Christmas event, featuring a drive-in pantomime alongside craft stalls, food vendors and a tipi set up as Santa’s grotto.

WHAT’S KEEPING MY SPIRITS UP

A CBD ENHANCED G&T

I’m becoming a pothead, but luckily, it’s legal. We’ve all been getting hooked on CBD, but I bet you haven’t added it to your gin & tonic (yet). I urge you to give it a go and upgrade your Angostura with Oto’s non-alcoholic CBD bitters, which contains 2,500mg CBD. CBD has amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and can help take the edge off any anxiety you might have (don’t we all?), and it’s all perfectly natural. It makes for a more interesting non-alcoholic cocktail too. £79 for 100ml (around 100 drinks worth).

TIM FLACH'S MASKED HORSES

If there was ever a picture to grab my attention, it’s this – I’m a massive horse lover (not so much a mask one) but these photographs are just so striking that I had to ask Tim Flach, the renowned wildlife photographer, what they were all about. ‘Horses for me are so inextricably linked to our culture and history that images of them can resonate so powerfully deep within us,’ he told us. Too right. You can see these beauties in the flesh (at last) at his Equus exhibition which opens at Gallery 8 in Mayfair on Thursday 10 December and runs until Sunday 20 December.

JPL'S SIREN JUMPSUIT

I’m a sucker for a jumpsuit and this one ticks all boxes of being practical, smart and comfortable all at once – which, let’s face it, is what we’re looking for at the moment. All JPG Atelier pieces are handcrafted in London and it’s a brand that prides itself on its transparent sustainability practices. Look good, feel good.
