Protecting Our Planet

As new structures are built and more residencies are created, communities must change to accommodate them. The low-income residents of the city have been receiving the brunt of such changes as their homes are making way for luxury housing.
Now, some are questioning why the city was so quick to protect only the waterfront in lower Manhattan from changes. Find out how lower-income communities are fighting to protect their waters and green spaces independently and where the city falls short.

Trees Feel

Eilean Faltin, a 12-year-old climate activist is getting recognition for her daily tree caretaking. Although staples don't kill trees when used to attach fliers the staples make trees susceptible to disease.
So, Faltin spends her mornings removing the staples from dozens and dozens of trees she sees in Queens. As a volunteer, she is part of a larger team serving a planet we are all responsible for and as a child, she is an inspiration.

Revitalizing Her Legacy

How does one person carry the weight of legacy, diner satisfaction and culinary standards in the East Village? Just ask Sakura Yagi about her role in what NYC calls Little Tokyo.
Sakura Yagi is the child of Bon Yagi, the creator of the Little Tokyo food hub. Now, Sakura monitors restaurants like Hasaki and Sake Bar Decibel to improve, change and highlight different chefs and restaurants as she sees fit.

Behind The Curtain

Blac Rabbit's sound is entrancing, lively and uplifting. The band, originally from Queens, has recently gone viral thanks to their subway performances.
Videos of the lead singers Amiri and Rahiem Taylor gathered a following due to their renditions of Beatles tunes. They've become so well received that they've dedicated portions of performances to covering the Beatles hits.

Be One With Art

Get lost in sound, visuals, and light at the Chelsea Market's Artechouse. The exhibit is coming to a close this month but there's still time to experience it.
The detailed visuals and immense colors bend reality and transport visitors through different virtual worlds. Check out the 6,000 square foot space with pals or solo for a meditative journey.
