Cleckheaton Writers Group 28 November, NaNoWriMo and Creative Scene What's On newsletter - November
The Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met last night at Cleckheaton Library where Neil and I were in attendance, Sarah, Kathy and Mandy having passed on their apologies.
As we were the only attendees, we discussed our recent NaNoWriMo experiences and I shared a section of my current WIP and Neil shared the beginning of his as these were what we were working on as part of the challenge. Neil thought that the two chapters I shared worked well together and that it was more obvious how the characters were connected with this new chapter, he also spotted some of the subtle hints that I had planted to foreshadow events and show other links.
Neil's story entitled 'Cubby hole' was a great beginning as it set up plenty of intrigue and questions about the characters, for example I wanted to know what the father had done for the family to need to move away. It also had some very atmospheric sentences, in the beginning with dancing leaves and juxtaposition of the ivy on the house signifying warmth when the main character felt foreboding when looking at. Hoping that Neil shares more of this and gets a few more words under his belt before the end of November.
I reminded Neil that some of his work needs to be sent to Mandy for consideration for the anthology (all members please) and then we discussed some upcoming competitions, some mentioned in the Writers Magazine that I had brought along.
We then discussed the CWG Christmas Do and the two suggested dates are Monday the 12th (which Kathy and Mandy can make) or the 19th which Neil and I prefer - could all members please let me know as soon as possible which is the best for them so that we can organise this as December is not far away.
The next CWG meeting will be on Monday 8 January.
There are plenty of Creative Scene local arts events coming up in West Yorkshire this November and December:
