Belatedly, happy new year from all of us at Writing Magazine. How’s your 2016 shaping
up? Let’s hope this is the year you fulfil all your writing dreams. If you’re
still considering what your major projects will be, perhaps take a breather
and let something come to you naturally. There are plenty of comps and
opportunities to keep you busy in the short term below… and you never know
what ideas they might inspire you to develop further.
We've been happily busy, judging by the outstanding entries for our recent
big competitions, to win a self-publishing package from Matador Books and a
place at the Iceland Writers' Retreat. I can't wait to reveal the winners,
and I'm sure you'll be interested to read them, but we'll both have to
wait... make sure you don't miss our April issue for the big announcements.
As always, we’d love to hear your updates. Let us know what projects you’re
planning, or any big events you’ve got coming up, on Facebook, or just email.
Now get writing!

And don’t forget, there’s still time to get your entries
in for some of our big annual competitions, all closing on 31 January: if
you were a new subscriber to WM in 2015, send your entries for the annual
New Subscribers’ Poetry and Short Story competitions by email; and see the website for entry forms for
the Self-Published Book of the Year and Writers’ Circle Anthology Awards.
Meanwhile,
catching our eye on the wider web, we've been distracted by:
