December 2014

Writing Yorkshire News
Writing Yorkshire are really pleased to welcome and introduce you all to poet Joe Kriss who has taken on the role as new Director for Writing Yorkshire. Many will know Joe from Wordlife, Opus and Now Then. He comes armed with a pen and a mic and has this to say: "I'm really excited to take this post having worked freelance for the organisation for six years. It's a great team and I'm looking forward to us working together to develop projects that have a real impact for writers of all ages across Yorkshire. We're in a difficult funding climate right now but I'm confident we can innovate as well as maintain what has been our core activity in recent years."
Keep a close eye on our newsletter, facebook and twitter feeds for details of the new paths that Joe will be helping us to open up for Yorkshire Writers.

Bursary Awards
Two bursaries, each worth £3,000, will be awarded to two writers. One bursary winner will be based at RED Production Company. They will receive mentoring and support from key members of staff to develop their own original idea and to gain an understanding of the development process. The second bursary winner will be based at Lime Pictures in Liverpool. The bursary recipient will work with the writing team at Hollyoaks to undertake an attachment from story conference to final shoot. The recipient will be supported to produce a shadow script for the show and this could lead to a commission for an actual broadcast episode if the writer demonstrates promise.

No previous writing experience is required. Both production companies are looking for a writer with an ear for dialogue, able to write character-driven script with imagination.
