Wyrd Britannia 20-25th January, Calderdale Libraries

Louise Marr has forwarded me details of the Wyrd Britannia event taking place in January:

Wyrd Britannia

A festival of special events from 20th-25th of January in Calderdale Libraries, exploring ideas of landscape, folklore, ritual and psychedelia.

Live music, films, author events and a chance to browse and borrow from our collection of esoteric books, some of which haven't seen the light of day for decades.

Tickets for author and live music events can be purchased from Halifax Central, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge Libraries as well as online from  www.wegottickets.com

For film events please collect a free ticket from the venue or call to book a place.

***WED 22ND JAN @HEBDEN BRIDGE LIBRARY, 7.30pm £3***

Author Andy Roberts presents 'Albion Dreaming- A popular history of LSD in Britain' (audio/visual presentation).

+ Magpahi (live)

Falsetto fairytale folk songs and 16th century poems from the black and white birds nest. The Bunyan on the ball of Vashti’s foot from the frost bitten fells of Rochdale. Alison Cooper is inspired by sepia stories, stray animals and recurring dreams of migration.’ Finders Keepers Records

***SAT 25TH JAN @ TODMORDEN LIBRARY 7.30pm £3***

For Wyrd Britannia Folklore Tapes will make a special field trip to Todmorden in order to weave elements of local folklore and the layout of the library itself into a performance which will feature hand treated 8mm film, modified projectors and homemade acoustic contraptions presented within an almost theatrical framework. In this way the piece is akin to a form of puppetry with the projectionist as puppeteer.

+ Tales From The Black Meadow (The Soulless Party)
