The Sophie King Prize, deadline 10 January 2014

This romantic fiction short story competition aims to discover a great new romance short story. The winning story will be chosen by best-selling novelist and short story writer Sophie King.

This free-to-enter competition is open to both published and unpublished writers worldwide. The winning story will be recorded by a professional actor, and broadcast from a dedicated online audio player. The winner will also receive a pair of Silver-Plated Life Long Champagne Chalices and £50 gift voucher courtesy of The Handpicked Collection. One runner up will receive a £25 gift Handpicked Collection voucher.

The Sophie King Prize is now open for entries. Entrants must submit a short story of between 1,500 to 2,500 words with a romantic theme. The submissions deadline is January 10th 2014 and the winner will be announced on February 14th 2014.

Submitting your story Before submitting your story, please read and agree to the competition terms and rules. Please remember that only one entry per writer is allowed. We can only accept emailed entries. Please ensure you follow the simple instructions below in order for your entry to be considered for The Sophie King Prize.

1. Each entry should be saved as a Word document. The title of the story and the page number should appear on the header of each page of the document. The writer's name must not appear anywhere on their entry.

2. Please create a cover sheet (one page Word document) which lists your name and contact details (email address and telephone number) and the title of your story.

3. Please email the two documents (story document and cover sheet) to entries @thesophiekingprize.com (anti-spam measure - pleasure close gap between entries and @)

4. You can submit entries any time from now until 4pm on
Friday 10th January 2013. Please note we cannot accept any entries after the closing date, for any reason, so please give yourself plenty of time to get your entries to us.

5. Only the winning entrant and runner up will be notified directly. We'll also publish the winner's and runner up's names on this website, as well as www.sophieking.info and www.greatstorieswithheart.com.

Competition terms and rules
Terms and conditions 1. The competition is run by Corazon Books (Wyndham Media Ltd).
2. By entering the competition, entrants together with any other member of the public involved agree to be bound by these rules, and by any competition instructions.
3. Only one entry per writer is allowed.
4. The story must be a minimum of 1,500 and a maximum of 2,500 words in length.
5. The story must be previously unpublished and not have appeared in print, online or in any other format.
6. The decision of the Judges shall be final in every instance. No correspondence will be entered into or comment issued on any matters concerning any competition, and no reasons given for any decision made by the Judges.
7. Prizes are as advertised and there are no substitutes or alternatives.
8. Entrants must submit their story between 9am on Monday 30th September 2013 and 4pm on Friday 10th January 2014.
9. There is no fee for entry to the competition.
10. The author of each story retains the copyright to their contribution.
11. Corazon Books (Wyndham Media Ltd) reserves the right to produce an audio version of the winning story and to broadcast the audio story online, on demand, for a period of 12 months from the first broadcast. Corazon Books (Wyndham Media Ltd) retains the copyright to the audio version of the story.
12. Corazon Books (Wyndham Media Ltd) will not be liable for any circumstances beyond its reasonable control that prevent the competition being fulfilled, or a winner or winners being chosen. In the event of any error, whether printing, technological or otherwise, which affects the competition in any way, the judges reserve the right to administer the competition as though the error had not occurred.
13. Corazon Books (Wyndham Media Ltd) reserves the right to cancel the competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion.
14. This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
