Have you got a book in you? We've teamed up with Simon & Schuster UK to find, and publish, a debut women's fiction writer
In handbag.com's most exciting competition yet, we've teamed up with booksandthecity.co.uk and powerhouse publishers Simon & Schuster UK to find, and publish, a debut women's fiction writer.

Great British Write Off logo -books- handbagcom

Simon & Schuster UK is the company behind the careers of authors including Jackie Collins, Philippa Gregory, Jessie J, Sam Faiers, Lynda La Plante, Milly Johnson and Santa Montefiore (which is why we've joined forces with them!) to find a writer who we believe is going to be the next big thing in women's fiction.

The plotline can be anything; the only requirement is that it must fall within the women's fiction genre.

So whether you've been itching to write a book for years and just need that final push, are a huge fan of women's fiction and think you could write one too, or just fancy the ultimate challenge for Christmas, read on to find out how you could be in with a chance of winning.

The prize:

The winning author will receive an advice session with Literary Agent Lizzy Kremer, Director of David Higham Associates, an author mentoring session with Sunday Times bestselling author Milly Johnson, will receive an eBook contract from Simon & Schuster UK to include 25% author royalty and have their debut short story published in eBook format. No cash alternative will be available and the prize is non-transferable.

The judges:

The entries will be judged by an expert panel that will be looking for a story which excites intrigues and surprises them. The panel includes:
• Sunday Times bestselling author Milly Johnson
• Editor of handbag.com Mango Saul
• Clare Hey, Senior Commissioning Editor at Simon & Schuster UK
• Sara-Jade Virtue, Project Manager booksandthecity.co.uk

The deadline:

All entries must be in by 5.30pm 31 January 2014. The deadline will not be extended under any circumstances.

How to enter

To enter The Great British Write Off you will need to complete 2,500 words of your original short story.
