Here is the latest Creative Future newsletter with details of Creative Writing Workshops and more:

Firstly, a massive thank you to all of you who donated and helped spread the word about our Arts For Impact campaign. With your help, alongside Big Give's match funding and gift aid, we were able to raise a grand total of £2,523!

This money will go towards keeping the Creative Future Writers' Award free to enter for ALL underepresented writers. Thank you again for your generosity.

If you want to sharpen your skills before your apply, our popular workshops for writers across different genres return this spring. Places go fast, so don't miss out!

From Poems to Pamphlet

Join us for a set of online workshops focusing on how to shape compelling poems into a cohesive pamphlet or collection. These sessions focus on writing exercises using examples from contemporary writers and their techniques before discussing how these in turn formed part of a more substantial body of work.

Writing Prose

Over the course of four online workshops, you’ll learn how to write powerful and compelling prose. These sessions will offer an in-depth exploration of how to balance and succesfully focus on plot, character, dialogue and editing.

Writing Strange Intimacy

These online workshops will take a unique approach to crafting intimate scenes of all kinds, ideal for practitioners of creative non-fiction, alternative romance, and prose poetry. We will explore close reading of inspirational texts, writing prompts and unorthodox exercises, insightful feedback and emotional unpacking.

2025 Writers In Residence


Meet our 2025 Writers In Residence, Shazia, Anita and Sallyanne. Each of them are emerging underrepresented authors and past winners of the Creative Future Writers’ Award.

Each writer has dedicated time to write residencies in unusual and non-traditional spaces to interact with people and gain inspiration, and lead writing workshops for local people. We'll be sharing more information about workshops taking place near you soon.

Write Out Loud Poetry Competition

The Write Out Loud 2025 poetry competition marks the website’s 20th anniversary, and is open for entries. The judge is celebrated Bloodaxe Books editor and anthologist, Neil Astley, and the theme is ‘Echoes’- which is open to your own interpretation. The first prize is £500, second place £250, and third place £50.

Brighton People's Theatre Playwriting Workshops

Join Brighton People's Theatre for five weeks of Playwriting Workshops starting Wednesday 23 April. Go to all five or drop into individual workshops.

Throw yourself into some creative writing exercises as a springboard to discuss playwriting essentials. Flex your creative muscles and deepen your writing practice.

These workshops are for non-professional writers and non-professional actors, so if you’ve never done anything like it before but want to give it a try, go along!

The Jane Gregory Bursaries are offering three under-represented writers a unique opportunity to attend the Creative Thursday writing day at the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival 2025 in Harrogate in July.

Creative Thursday is an immersive and inspiring day of workshops and talks led by industry experts and bestselling crime writers including Vaseem Khan, Mick Herron, Will Dean and Laura Shepherd Robinson.
