Cleckheaton Writers Group met on Monday with Karen, Kathy, Michael and Reuben in attendance, Barbara, David, Ivy and Molly having passed on their apologies.
The minutes from last meeting were passed.
WIP updates: Karen has been concentrating on work for her own business and putting together answers for an author interview. Kathy has been poorly but there was good news as she can now drive again. Reuben has been working on a chapter rewrite, 1100 words, and a 1700 word stream of consciousness for a new Astrid chapter. He has started rewriting another chapter and passed feedback onto David for his Pastures Old piece.
CW comps/workshops/events: Bath Children's Novel finishes at the end of November and the Bath Novel opens in December. The Bruntwood Prize has a deadline of 7 January and BBC Writers Room open call deadline is 5 December. Anna Chilvers has a writing workshop running at Hebden Bridge (please contact Karen for information).
Writing plans: Karen will be editing her answers to the author interview and sending it off plus putting together information on a MS appraisal for a client. Kathy will work on Tobias. Reuben will look at one of the chapters to rewrite. Michael will get the Star Trek story sorted, tie fragments together on a poem and write an article.
The film The Man Who Invented Christmas was recommended as was the George Scott Christmas Carol from 1984 which is available on YouTube.
Kathy requested the short story book, the Magazine Writers handbook and the quick guide to writing short stories from those donated. Michael requested the Procrastinators Guide to Success. Karen has a list of the books and who will have them going forward so that CWG members can request to view.
Feedback sessions: No-one had brought anything for feedback.
Writing challenge: December irreverent Christmas.
Next meeting: The 9th of December is the CWG Christmas Do at Wetherspoons in Cleckheaton at 6.30pm. Then CWG will restart in 2025 on the 6th of January at Cleckheaton Library.
