There are a number of writing opportunities in the new WestWord newsletter:
Lots of submission opportunities
Get
writing, get submitting!
Hi, Before we get to all the current submission opportunities an
apology as I have to reschedule the weekend workshop. The power people are
working on our lines on Saturday morning and there will be no electricity or
internet when I was supposed to be running the workshop. We got battered by
the storm recently and lost power for a couple of days so they are coming to
reinforce it before the next storm comes! So the workshop will now happen in January. Included with membership
or just buy a ticket to come along. I will be adding more to the 2025
calendar soon too. Weaving
Sensuous Spells
Sunday
12th January - 11.00 - 12.30 GMT
Humans are sensory creatures. Everything we experience comes
through our sight, touch, sound, taste and smell, yet often these elements
are largely missing in short fiction, with sight and interiority leading the
way. While both of these are important elements, this workshop will look at
the ways we can weave the senses into our stories to make them fully
immersive and reconnect our characters to the world they live in. We’ll look at how you can bring fresh takes to writing the
senses with lots of examples from writers who are weaving great sensuous
spells. Open
submissions withe deadlines
Don’t forget to send your LIGHT-inspired stories by 15th
December for the extended deadline for the Short Story
Prize. £1000 in cash prizes to be won and
publication in the anthology edition in February. The 1000 Word
Photo comp wants your stories of EXACTLY 1000
words inspired by the photo. Deadline is 31st December as we all know writers
don’t go to New Year’s Eve parties! Cash prizes are a share of the entry fees
and publication is in March. The theme for Edition 8 of WestWord - publishing April 2025 -
is ILLUSION. Send your short stories, flashes and micros by 31st January
2025. Submit here. Always
open submissions
You can send stories in the following categories at any time. We have the latest in the Short Story Spotlight series going
live this weekend. Look out for Six
Names by Rosemary Collins on Sunday. Plus our Christmas Countdown gets started on Tuesday with a
festive story published every day until 20th December to get you in the
festive mood! Look forward to reading your work soon! With love, © 2024 Amanda Saint
