With details of the upcoming Brigantia Creative Breakfast and more:

Coming up at Brigantia
Creative Breakfast with Artwalk Wakefield
Thursday 5 March, 8.30 - 10am

Brigantia’s Creative Breakfast is back for 2020!

Are you all fired up after the Dewsbury Blueprint and want to learn more about how to get your creative plan for Dewsbury off the ground?
This spring, we're welcoming guest speakers who have transformed their city streets, disused high street shops and public spaces with creativity, ambition and a DIY spirit.

For the first session, we’ve invited Amy Lilley and Lucy Norton, the creators of Artwalk Wakefield, to share their experience of getting their project up and running and bringing local people together around creativity.

Brigantia’s monthly Creative Breakfast aims to facilitate conversations on how creativity can benefit our area and improve the lives of those who live and work in Dewsbury and the surrounding area.
You don’t have to be an artist or business owner to come along, but you’ll get to join in conversations on how creativity can benefit our area, share ideas, learn – and enjoy some fresh coffee, Yorkshire tea and croissants.

Never been to Brigantia before?

Brigantia is Creative Scene's making and meeting space in the heart of Dewsbury town centre. We run workshops, events, film screenings and meetings.

Brigantia is located on the 5th floor of Empire House on Old Wakefield Road in Dewsbury.
Most events at Brigantia are free, but to attend you will need to be a member. Membership costs £3 a year and gets you access to loads of workshops, events and bookable space.
Don't worry if you're not a member of Brigantia yet - you can purchase your membership here or on the door at an event.

And finally...

Do you know someone aged between 11-18 who wants to learn more about life on the stage this half term?

On Friday 21 February, Batley Girls' High School will welcome British Youth Music Theatre for a free Discover Musical Theatre day.

With loads of drama, music and dance activities, young people will also have the opportunity to learn about what life is like behind-the-scenes in musical theatre too.

Interested? Email scotti@parliament.uk to register for a place - or more information here.

Batley and Spen Youth Theatre have invited British Youth Music Theatre to hold a careers and auditions day at Batley Girls' High School on Friday 21 February.

Open to anyone aged between 11-18, the day will be led by the British Youth Music Theatre's team including a director, musical director, choreographer and theatre designer, and will feature acting workshops, dance classes and careers advice.
Young people who are performers, instrumentalists or just interested in learning more about the technical side of theatre are invited to book.

I Am No Bird: creative writing workshop
Cleckheaton Library, Saturday 7 March, 1 - 3pm

Want to be part of a creative writing workshop about the Brontë sisters?
Award-winning theatremaker, musician and performer Sophia Hatfield, along with Stute Theatre and Brontë Parsonage Museum, is currently working on a new show about the lives and works of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë.

You don’t need any knowledge of the Brontë sisters to attend the workshop, nor do you need any experience of creative writing. The workshop is free and open to all.

We have a limited amount of spaces for the workshop (and expect it'll be popular!) so book your place quick.

Folk Masterclass with Bella Hardy
Cleckheaton Folk Festival, 3 - 4 July

Following last year's masterclass with Paul Sartin, we're inviting emerging folk musicians, singers and performers to apply for a series of free workshops with award-winning singer-songwriter Bella Hardy.

Whether your instrument be fiddle, guitar or ukulele, Bella will give feedback on your performance while also offering professional advice and guidance about the folk world.

The masterclasses will take place on Friday 3 July (2 – 5pm) and Saturday 4 July (9.30 – 11am).

On Friday 3 July (7 – 9pm), you will also have the chance to perform at the festival with your fellow participants in a Showcase Performance.
