Are you hooked on podcasts,
Like many of you, I was introduced to the relatively new medium through the wildly popular Serial podcast. I was on a West-Coast road trip with my kids when we were riveted to the entire 12-part series during our tour of the Oregon and California coastlines. We weren’t alone: the blockbuster first series of the show was downloaded over 80 million times.
Now I’m a podcast junkie. I listen to sports, news, business, opinion, and other broadcasts. After thousands of hours of “research,” I believe this medium is the next evolution of long-form journalism. While I mourn the demise of the traditional print and magazine reporting (OK, Boomer), I realize that people want easier ways to consume content.
So if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em: I’m happy to announce that we have launched a new podcast series called BookBaby Spotlight. Hosted by our own Publishing Specialist Sam Sedam, our broadcasts focus on the best and brightest BookBaby authors and our friends in the industry. This week’s episode features Smith Publicity and how they can help authors make the most of their book marketing opportunities.

Editing
is what every book needs. But what type does your book
need? Don’t make the mistake of publishing an unedited book just
because you aren’t sure.
Read
this article
that breaks down the differences between each editing service. Once
you know what type of editing is perfect for your book, we can help
you perfect your manuscript. Still not sure? Give us a call at 1-877-961-6878. We’d be happy
to help.
“The editor
who did a line edit for my book was excellent, pointing out the
errors but also giving helpful comments and positive feedback too.
I have used BookBaby editing a few times now and will continue to
do so.” – Emma

Happy
February,
I've been sharing a lot of BookBaby fan letters with you recently.
Here's one more.
Hello everyone
at BookBaby! I just received my copies of my book, Terror On Top Of Ole Smokey, and
I am delighted with all your work. The book cover is just right,
and I think the book will be a hit! Thanks to each and every one at
BookBaby who held my hand and produced a great book! Thank You!
—Lee H.
I'm happy to report we get a lot of these kinds of messages every
week. But this one…well it's a little special. Because after a long
career in general contracting, electrical and landscape
contracting, real estate sales and property management, Lee decided
to write and publish her first book through BookBaby…at age 91!
Lee isn't ready to stop with just one book. In fact, she’s hard at
work on a new novel, Rider
Up, Handicappers Down, and she's not alone. In his
post, "It's Never Too Late To Start Writing," BookBaby Blog
contributor Michael Gallant showcases five notable literary late
bloomers.

Good
morning,
The world has watched in horror as bush fires continue to rage in
Australia. I've traveled down under several times, and my
sister-in-law's entire family is from Brisbane, Queensland, so I
have some emotional connections to this tragedy. The massive scope of
this disaster—over 75,000 square miles charred, over 9,000 homes
and buildings destroyed, and over a billion animals killed—is
simply unimaginable. I'm doing my small part to help by donating to
the Disaster Relief of the Australian
Red Cross
and encourage you to do the same.
A little closer to home, BookBaby author Douglas Keister lived
through a similar cataclysmic event. The Chico, CA photojournalist
lives near the site of the infamous Camp Fire, the deadliest and
most destructive fire in California wildfire history. The entire
community of Paradise, CA was burned to the ground, with 86 people
lost and over 14,000 homes and structures consumed by the blaze.
For ten months, Keister traveled to the fire zone to document the
aftermath, devastation, and slow recovery of the rural California
community. Keister posted the images on his Facebook page and was
encouraged by his social media following to create a book
chronicling the tragedy.
The story of how Keister published People, Places, and Pieces of Paradise—The
Inferno, Aftermath and Recovery from the Most Destructive Wildfire
in California History, is the topic of my latest
BookBaby blog post. Here's how he summed up the effort: "I
have been fortunate to have found an appreciative and enthusiastic
audience for People,
Places, and Pieces of Paradise and, thanks to BookBaby,
was able to get the book to them in a timely manner at an
affordable price."

Our
Facebook and Instagram Ads for Authors program targets your
potential readers and directs them to purchase your book. Even if
you haven’t published with BookBaby, you can still promote your
back catalog and market previously published titles.
Why do
Facebook and Instagram ads work for many authors?
Over a billion people are active on Facebook and Instagram every
day, sharing information about their favorite movies, books, and
much more. We use this data to pinpoint audiences most likely to
purchase your books. It’s an author’s dream come true!
All you need is your book cover and an ad budget. We’ll take care
of the rest:
- Develop a
customized campaign targeting your book’s demographic.
- Deliver a free
proof to approve before your campaign launches.
- Send readers to
your Amazon, BookShop, or personal sales page.
- Share weekly
reports tracking campaign performance, including how many
readers saw your ad and reached your sales page.
BookBaby was the way to go!
“I ran the
Facebook ad for six weeks, and reached an audience who never would
have seen my book otherwise! One of the best BookBaby features is
the BookShop page. I have been using social media to direct
potential buyers to this page, and it is much more profitable than
using other online catalogs. Working with BookBaby has been an excellent
experience all the way around!” —Gary W.
