THE INTERNATIONAL MUSICAL
PHENOMENON
RETURNS TO LONDON THIS MONTH
WED 23 - SUN 27 JANUARY 2019
Don’t miss the smash-hit French musical as it returns to
London this month for 7 performances only, after touring in 23
countries worldwide in nine languages over the last 20 years.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Victor Hugo, Notre Dame de Paris
tells the story of the cathedral bell-ringer Quasimodo and his
desperate love for the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda.
This stage spectacular features an international ensemble of
singers, dancers, acrobats and musicians, as well as unforgettable
music composed by Richard Cocciante, with lyrics by Luc Plamondon.
This original French production will be performed in French with
English surtitles.
The Original London production of Les Miserables will
close at the Queen’s
Theatre on 13 July 2019. The theatre will spend
four months being rebuilt both backstage and in the auditorium as
well as adding many much-needed new lavatories to the front of
house.
The restored Queen’s Theatre will
reopen in December of 2019 with the New production of LES MISÉRABLES,
continuing its phenomenal run indefinitely. The acclaimed New
production was created for the show’s 25th Anniversary in the UK in
2009 and has gone on to enjoy huge success around the world all over
again, including returning to Broadway.
While the Queen’s
Theatre is being restored, LES MISÉRABLES will
continue in performance on Shaftesbury Avenue with exciting plans
being announced shortly for a four-month season at the Gielgud Theatre from
the end of July 2019.
The Pleasance Theatre is kick-starting 2019 with an
exciting season of brand new writing, headlined by IN LIPSTICK from
multi-award-winning company Up In Arms (Visitors, The Bush; Eventide,
Arcola; German Skerries, Orange Tree Theatre) and producer Ellie
Keel.
Maud, a woman on the run from damage buried in her past, has
sheltered Cynthia from the wildness of the world for the last few
years. Cynthia loves Maud, and Maud loves Cynthia, but now she’s
starting to suffocate. When she meets Dennis, a security guard at the
office where she works, she thinks for a moment that she’s glimpsed
an escape.
While Cynthia, the nocturnal recluse, sleeps, clinging to YouTube
videos of Shirley Bassey, their dressing up box and McDonald's, Maud
is preparing for the greatest performance of her life, and it’s only
a matter of time before reality seeps in and shatters their cocoon of
lipstick and fairytales.
Annie Jenkins’ savage, funny, deeply loving debut gives a heartfelt
voice to the fractured life of the modern city. A play about sex,
lies, damage, and the ceilings on our dreams from a writer who shows
us both how powerful and how powerless it feels to be young, and
trying to dream a future into being.
IN LIPSTICK comes from renowned theatre company Up In Arms, whose recent
productions of Barney Norris’s plays have received national and
international acclaim.
