News for
June from Slung Low
June Already!
The team have been really busy getting ready for two big events this
month. The first is this weekend - on Saturday 4th June it's our Fourth
"How To...Festival". With the subtitle "Long Ago &
Yesterday", take part in a day full of nostalgic reminisces and
memories of bygone times.
The activities and workshops begin at 11:00am with Indian Cookery, followed by Beginners Tin Whistle at 2pm. We'll provide
everything you need for both of these. Just bring yourselves and a
willingness to take part!
At 3pm there's the energetic Dance The Roaring 20's where you can learn The
Charleston and The Black Bottom Stomp with our choreographer Chris
Wilson. Flat shoes for this one please!
Then at 4pm there's the opportunity to immortalise your memories in our Memory Store Workshop with Bread and Goose.
5pm will see the return of Yorkshire Silents - A selection of short silent films
with live piano accompaniment, including some of the earliest examples of
hand-drawn animation and special effects, Yorkshire-made shorts by
Holmfirth’s Bamforth and Company, and a two-reel comedy starring Marion
Byron and Anita Garvin, the female Laurel and Hardy of the 1920s.
Manjit's Kitchen will be providing dinner at 6pm, then we'll round off
the day at
7pm with Vive La Variete - a brilliant hour
showcasing some of the finest Cabaret Artists on the
UK circuit, who'll give you an exclusive sneak preview of their
Edinburgh Fringe shows.
You can take part in as much or as little as you want, its entirely up to
you. The full timetable with more detail is on our website here - as usual, there's a limited number
of places for all workshops and performances so to reserve a ticket
please email boxoffice@slunglow.org
with the number of places you wish to book for each event and a contact
telephone number.
Later in the month, over midsummer we will be working with the Royal
Shakespeare Company and a group of friends old and new to set up Fairy
Portal Camp at Avonbank Gardens, Stratford-Upon-Avon, alongside Rash Dash
and The School of Night.
The next wave of tickets for this has recently been released - you'll
find out everything you need to know right here.
Finally we've plenty more to look
forward to at the HUB in the coming weeks -
Last places remain for, Victoria Melody's Hair Peace this Sunday,
with Manic Chord previewing the The Economy of Ecology the week after.
Proto-Type vent their frustration at the insidious machine of
surveillance in A Machine They're Secretly Building on Sun 19th , and
on Sun 26th Petrification is described as "a
play for anyone who ever left home and come back to find everything
changed. And for anyone who never went away in the first place."
Sneaking into July, Curious Monkey will present Preggers , which they started working on at the HUB
back last Summer
More news next month but as ever tune in regularly on Twitter and Facebook for more regular updates.
See you soon
