Zoolander 2 film review

Went to see this film on Mother's Day with my husband and son at the Trinity Leeds Everyman Cinema.

IMDB says: Derek and Hansel are lured into modelling again, in Rome, where they find themselves the target of a sinister conspiracy.

In this Ben Stiller (Tropic Thunder, Dodgeball) directed and written, with Justin Theroux (American Psycho, Mulholland Drive), Nicholas Stoller (Fun with Dick and Jane, Get Him to the Greek), John Hamburg (Along came Polly, Meet the Parents) and Drake Sather (Zoolander, NewsRadio), film, Ben Stiller stars as Derek Zoolander, now no longer modelling due to a family tragedy which has left him ostracised from his best friend Hansel (Owen Wilson: Cars, Wedding Crashers) and living away from the fashion world, where only Billy Zane (Billy Zane: Titanic, Back to the Future) can find him.

When pop stars start getting murdered and leaving pictures of themselves posing Zoolander-style, Agent Valencia (Penélope Cruz: Vanilla Sky, Volver) and Agent Fillipo (Jon Daly: Bride Wars, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) recruit them to help to solve a sinister conspiracy.  Hoping to use this as a way to get his son Derek Jr. (Cyrus Arnold: Hardcore Henry, Richie Rich) back, Derek agrees to model for Alexanya Atoz (Kristen Wiig: The Martian, Bridesmaids) along with Hansel, who is searching for who he is.  But will this put them at risk even though Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrell: Step Brothers, The Other Guys) and Katinka (Milla Jovovich: The Fifth Element, Resident Evil) are safely behind bars?

This film has everything the original had, the intentional bad acting, corny writing and puerile humour, but that is what makes it so funny.  With lots of celebrity cameos and nods to other classic movies, ignore reality and immerse yourself in a couple of hours of hilarious stupidity.

Tagline: Find the perfect match.  Adopt a dog now.                        6/10

Trivia: Zoolander 2 was released 15 years after the first movie was released, Jonah Hill was attached to the movie but dropped out and all three of the main male stars, Stiller, Wilson and Ferrell, are all left-handed.
