Dates for the Diary:

We hope to see you at the following events:

Join us tomorrow evening at Holocaust Centre North for an evening of sharing stories, food and personal traditions, exploring the changing of the seasons from Winter to Spring.

Inspired by reflections on nature from our archive. Please come along to share an evening of story, food and connection.

This workshop is open to all, and families are warmly welcome. Food and refreshments will be available.

Join us at the University of Huddersfield for our next free film screening, in partnership with Cultures of Film.

Where Is Anne Frank (2021) is an animated, family friendly re-imagining of the story of Anne Frank. Instead of following Anne directly, the film brings to life Kitty — the imaginary friend to whom Anne addressed her famous diary entries — in present-day Amsterdam. Unaware that more than 75 years have passed and believing her friend must still be alive, Kitty sets out on a heartfelt quest across modern Europe to find Anne. As she travels, she revisits vivid flashbacks from Anne’s life during World War II, explores the legacy of the Holocaust, and encounters contemporary issues such as displacement and refugees, blending history with a fantasy-tinged adventure and reflections on humanity and memory.

A Time for Reflection

Holocaust Memorial Day 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined us last month for our Holocaust Memorial Day service.

Holocaust Memorial Day stands as a reminder of what humanity is capable of, and our duty to build a better future.

We would like to thank our speakers Professor Tim Thornton from the University of Huddersfield, Emsuda Selman and the performers from 6 Million + and Carlton Infant and Junior School, Dr Tracy Craggs in conversation with Stuart Ferster, Aida Haughton from the New Vic Borderlines, and Rabbi Dovid Lewis from the Rabbi and the Imam initiative.

Hanukkah 2025

In December the Huddersfield and District Jewish Community and their friends gathered at Holocaust Centre North to celebrate Hanukkah.

Doughnuts were devoured, latkes were lapped up and the candles cast out the darkness. A fun event for all ages, with traditional songs, prayers and dreidle spinning!

Announcements

Celebrating another 3 years of Homeward Bound!

We are pleased to announce we have received funding to continue our  Homeward Bound project for another three years!

Homeward Bound is an ambitious project which will allow us to fulfil our archive's potential by making it accessible to everyone. Over the next three years we will be focusing on expanding our collection, cataloguing (writing descriptions) what we already have, and digitising (making digital copies of our physical items).

Volunteers needed for a survey

Are you Second Generation (2G) and able to spare 15-20 minutes for a survey?

Nicola Keller, a PhD student at Cardiff University and a second-generation with a family archive at The Wiener Holocaust Library, is researching how language might affect decisions 2G make around their family Holocaust documents and artefacts.

Her survey asks brief, non-identifying questions about parents’ wartime experiences, as well as questions on family languages, translation of documents and thoughts about donating to an archive or museum.

If you have any questions, or problems accessing the form, please contact Nicola: KellerNC@cardiff.ac.uk
