We’ve had a glow up! Commonword Cultureword relaunched as Cultureword on the 28th May. We had a joyful celebration (with cake!) at Manchester Poetry Library to mark this evolution. Alongside our new logo and look we have a brand-new website which is full of accessible features including a Showcase page, a Writers Gallery and Events Listings. We hope you enjoy using it!
We are thrilled to announce a new poetry magazine dedicated to showcasing the vibrant voices of Oldham! Submissions are now open for Issue 1, themed Play. Think playfulness, creative freedom, childhood wonder, imagination, and joy. Entry is open to anyone who lives, works or has a strong connection to Oldham.
Ella is hosting the first of two Poetry Power Hours sessions tonight at Hack Oldham, 6-8pm. This creative writing workshop is designed to ignite your poetic voice 🔥 You can expect a range of exercises and techniques alongside further details about Cultureword's Oldham Poetry Magazine.
Next Thursday 26th June artist Fabiolo Santana will be running a free Creative Wellbeing Workshop at Bridge 5 Mill, Ancoats, 6-8pm. Through movement, writing and performance you'll create artistic responses that celebrate how we rest and thrive in a society that seeks to dehumanise us. Open to all.
Writer and postgraduate researcher Adam Lowe is conducting research on the crucial role Commonword Cultureword has played in supporting a diverse range of writers in Manchester and the North West since our inception.
Identity Writers Group for Global Majority writers continues to meet weekly at Manchester Poetry Library for lively critique sessions. Our performance collective Identity Live! have had some great gigs recently as part of Chorlton Arts Festival and Hulme Eco Fest. If you're a Global Majority creative writer do join us at 6.30pm on Wednesdays.
