Hi,

By working with local providers, independent accommodations, and first-rate guides, we keep as many elements of our trips as local as possible, meaning we maintain a low-carbon footprint as well as actively benefiting the rural communities we visit. We’ve also implemented a carbon labelling scheme, a program that allows us to effectively minimalise and mitigate carbon wherever possible.

It’s why we’ve partnered with the sustainable clothing brand Haglöfs for our Black Friday promotion. Any traveller booking with us between the 17th and 27th of November will receive an L.I.M Shield Hood Jacket made from recycled fabric. Lightweight and breathable, the L.I.M Jacket is the perfect complement to any adventure-ready wardrobe.

Questions about a trip? Get in touch with our friendly team at: +353 (0) 91 457 898 or toll free from North America at: 1-844-235-6240. Our office hours are 9.00AM - 5.30PM Monday to Friday GMT.

Incredible. Exceeded expectations. Western Ireland is so beautiful. Add to that a small group (van was perfect), great guide, great accommodations, and no worries (like driving on the “wrong” side on narrow roads) and it all equals a perfect vacation.

A New Name for the Kent Downs

On 22 November 2023, all Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales became National Landscapes.

The new name reflects our national importance: the vital contribution we make to protect the nation from the threats of climate change, nature depletion and the wellbeing crisis, whilst also creating greater understanding and awareness for the work of the whole National Landscapes family. Our mission is to protect and restore this special landscape and to make sure that everyone can enjoy it!

Welcome to National Landscapes.

Our Journey to Geopark Status

The Kent Downs National Landscape is on a visionary journey with our French neighbours at the Parc Naturel Régional des Caps et Marais d'Opale to secure international recognition as a UNESCO Global Cross-Channel Geopark. If we're successful, this will bring international recognition of our incredible geological heritage and the beauty of our landscapes.

On 4th December, we're hosting a visit from the UK and French UNESCO Global Geopark Committee Chairs. The visit will assess whether we're ready to submit our application for Geopark status to UNESCO in November 2024.

Scrub Clearance on the North Downs

During November, the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership and their hardworking volunteers have been restoring a site just off the Pilgrims Way on the North Downs, near Boxley.

They spent the day clearing encroaching scrub, bramble and self-seeded tree saplings in order to restore and preserve the rare chalk grassland beneath.

Unimproved chalk grassland is a unique ecosystem. Many of the plants found here are specifically adapted to survive in the poor soils and find it hard to live anywhere else.

The most famous are the rare orchids, such as the pyramidal, bee and man orchids, all regularly found in the Kent Downs.

If left unmanaged, scrub quickly dominates on these sites, shading out these rare plants.

This project is supported by the Kent Downs AONB through the DEFRA funded Farming in Protected Landscapes programme.

National Tree Week
25th November to 3rd December is National Tree Week, an annual celebration of trees in the UK, hosted by The Tree Council

🌳 Did you know Lullingstone Country Park is home to over 300 veteran oak, beech, ash, hornbeam and sweet chestnut trees – some thought to be 800 years old?

🌳 Over the last few years, as part of our Darent Valley project, these ancient and notable trees were mapped and assessed to ensure they can flourish for many years to come and continue to inspire residents and visitors alike.

Places to visit in the Kent Downs

Looking for inspiration for your next adventure in the Downs? Look no further! Here's our top spot to visit this December...

Knole Park

Set at the heart of a medieval deer park, Knole is one of Kent’s hidden gems. Located just outside of Sevenoaks, the country house and former archbishop's palace boasts host of architectural styles, lavish interiors and 26-acre walled garden. The surrounding 1,000 acre sprawling parkland is home to lots of wildlife including veteran trees, rare fungi, bats and herds of wild deer!

The estate is managed by the National Trust,  and whilst the Gatehouse Tower, showrooms and parking are ticketed, the parkland can be accessed for free on foot via the local footpath network.

Spotlight on Weymouth

Weymouth has long been one of the most popular seaside resorts in Britain. Holidaymakers have been flocking to this corner of Dorset since King George III was a regular visitor more than 200 years ago.
It isn’t hard to see why; the sheltered, shallow waters of its golden sandy beach are ideal for bathing, and Weymouth enjoys more sunshine than anywhere else in England, even in Winter. Weymouth’s central position also makes it a great base from which to visit the Jurassic Coast, with much of the coastline in both directions easily accessible.
