The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies film review

Went to see this movie at Leeds/Bradford Odeon on Christmas Eve with the family.

IMDB says: Bilbo and Company are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the Lonely Mountain from falling into the hands of a rising darkness.

In this Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) directed film, Martin Freeman (Hot Fuzz, Sherlock) stars as the young Bilbo Baggins once more.  Tasked by Gandalf (Ian McKellan, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Da Vinci Code) to be the burglar for dwarves Thorin (Richard Armitage, Captain America: The First Avenger, Robin Hood), Balin (Ken Stott, Shallow Grave, Rebus), Dwalin (Graham McTavish, Rambo, Prison Break), Bifur (William Kircher, Out of the Blue, Xena: Warrior Princess), Bofur (James Nesbitt, Bloody Sunday, Monroe), Bombur (Stephen Hunter, Rescue Special Ops, Spirited), Fili (Dean O'Gorman, The Almighty Johnsons, The Cult), Kili (Aiden Turner, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Being Human), Oin (John Callen, Love Birds, The Man Who Lost His Head), Gloin (Peter Hambleton, Adventurer, Home By Christmas), Nori (Jed Brophy, District 9, Tracker), Dori (Mark Hadlow, King Kong, Last of the Living) and Ori (Adam Brown, Minimus, ChuckleVision).

Back for the final instalment are Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, Troy) as Legolas, Evangeline Lily (Real Steel, Lost) as Tauriel, Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Monuments Men) as Galadriel, Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, Cloud Atlas) as Elrond, Christopher Lee (Hugo, Dark Shadows) as Saruman and Sylvester McCoy (Dr Who, King Lear) as Radagast.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock) voices the dragon Smaug once more and Luke Evans (The Raven, Fast and Furious 6) as Bard.

The movie linked well to the LOTR films and had action from start to finish.

Tagline: Witness the defining chapter of the Middle-Earth saga.                          7.6/10

Trivia: Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom are the only major Elf actors not to appear in a Marvel film as Hugo Weaving (Elrond - appears as Red Skull in Captain America), Liv Tyler (Arwen - appears as Betty Ross in The Incredible Hulk), Lee Pace (Thranduil - Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy) and Evangeline Lily (Tauriel - is due to star in Ant-Man this year).
