1. The New Writer
has a FREE competition to
win a subscription to the magazine and publication and all you have to do is
write a poem and send it to them on a postcard. Closes 16th September. See more
here.
2. You can win a weekend for at the Festival of Romance on 9th and 10th
November in Bedford. You just need to write your name and email address.
3. Richard and Judy have
launched a new competition to ‘Find A Bestseller’ and there’s a £50,000
publishing deal on offer for the winner.
The rules are here (below the entry form). You have to
be a UK or Eire resident and the competition’s only open to NEW novelists,
although it’s fine if you’ve had short stories or non-fiction published.
You have to submit the first 10,000 to 12,000 words of your
novel (which doesn’t have to be finished! Hurrah!) by 1st January 2014, along
with an outline of the rest of the novel (not more than 1,000 words). They’re
also looking for a biography of up to 500 words.
If you don’t mind appearing on telly, then I can’t really think of a better incentive to start
that novel and get the first 10,000 words polished and ready to go by 1st
January!
4. Those lovely people on the Novelicious site, have
introduced a new monthly writing competition. Every third Wednesday of the
month they will be posting a new photo, as a writing ‘prompt’.
You have to use the photo as your inspiration for 200-400 words
of fiction which you then post in the comments section on the site and one
writer will win £20 of Amazon vouchers. It’s free to enter, so what’s stopping
you?
August’s prompt is open for entries until 12pm on 16th September
and you can enter from anywhere in the world!
