Cleckheaton Writers Group minutes, 7 September 2015

The Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday evening where Neil, Andy, Pauline and myself (Karen) were in attendance, Mandy, Pippa and Martijn having passed on their apologies.

The minutes from the last meeting were agreed and WIPs discussed.  Karen has been formulating her idea for the Victorian Gothic horror evening as discussed at the last meeting and shared her plot overview with the group.

Neil informed the group that Future Learn have some more free courses coming up, including one on journalism and agreed to pass on the information to the CWG members via email/FB.

No-one had brought any work to the meeting for feedback and both slots are available for the next meeting at the moment, though Karen hopes to have her gothic horror piece ready for this.

Karen informed the members that the Wakefield, Ilkley and Morley Literature Festivals are coming up and Neil mentioned that Brighouse is too.  Pauline reminded the group that Durham and Manchester are too and attendance was discussed.

Karen asked that the CWG members who have not already done so, please pass submission pieces to Mandy for consideration in the anthology as soon as possible, as only Andy, Karen and Martin have passed along work so far and we are getting close to the deadline for production if we want them ready for CLF 2016 as planned (Mandy has passed her pieces along to Karen).

As Laura/Dawn had not informed the group on the decision by CWG members regarding Saturday mornings, it was agreed that the CWG would stay on a Monday fortnightly and that they are welcome to run extra meetings themselves.  It was suggested that they can be held on a Saturday, as and when they are organised by Dawn/Laura, in the open teen area at Cleckheaton Library and that all CWG members be invited to attend, as well as children if they feel appropriate.  Pauline pointed out that she would be unable to attend a Saturday meeting due to family commitments.

As there was still a little time remaining, the members discussed ideas for the CLF 2016, including suggested authors such as Mark Thomas.

The next meeting of Cleckheaton Writers Group will take place on Monday 21 September 2015 6-8pm at Cleckheaton Library.  New members always welcome.
