Creative UK research finds ‘worrying’ generational and class divide when it comes to how public perceive creativity |
This week we launched our latest policy report: Perception & Potential: Public Attitudes Towards Creativity in the UK. Based on a poll of over a thousand people, Perception and Potential delves into the way people in the UK view creativity from the viability of creative careers, through to the economic impact of the sector. Released shortly after the Government’s Creative Industries Sector Plan, our report comes at a defining time for the cultural and creative industries and finds a worrying generational and class divide when it comes to how public perceive creativity. These findings make it clear that where people live, how much they earn and how they vote are all influential factors when it comes to perceptions. Together, we must work to overcome this challenge. Creative careers are for everyone – and creativity is a key driver of our economy. If you follow our social channels, you’ll be able to engage with our Perceptions social media campaign which raises the voice of young people studying at some of our Further Education member organisations. In these posts, you can see what this group of 18-year-olds have to say about the way they perceive creative jobs, the definition of creativity and the challenges faced by young people in pursuing creative careers. |

Are you an employer in the fashion industry? |
The Discover! Creative Careers programme is back, and this time for a whole month in 2025! This means more time to get involved, more creative career encounters for young people, and more IMPACT. If you’re an employer in the creative industries, spend some time this November showing 11–18-year-olds what a career in the fashion industry looks like through in-school, workplace or online activities. Wondering where to start? Head over to Discover’s website where you can explore their industry toolkit, getting started guide and encouraging case studies on what industry employers have done in previous years. Let’s inspire the future tailors, fashion historians and designers for the sector. |
