City of Culture BD2025 Living Library event:

We are pleased to announce our forthcoming Living Library event to celebrate the City of Culture 2025.
The theme will be: "What libraries mean to me"

Many of the city's libraries will be taking part, each hosting their own events during November 2025.

We are delighted you are interested in attending the BD2025 Living Library.

The Living Library stems from a Danish Human Library instead of borrowing a book to read a story, you 'borrow' a person instead. The idea is that stereotypes can be challenged when hearing stories from real people.

Living Library books are people from our community in Bradford who will share a personal experience or perspective on life. Borrow a living book in a safe space and take the opportunity to have a conversation and learn more about their experience.

Why be a Reader?
‘Borrow’ a Living Book in a safe space and take the unique opportunity to have an open, respectful conversation to hear more about the personal life experience of the Living Book. Listen, talk, and learn.

City Library would like to invite you to be a a Reader at our Living Library event where you will have the opportunity to hear from Books sharing their stories about 'what libraries mean to me'

How will the Living Library work?
There may be up to 3 other Readers with your Book.
Your Book will start by talking about what Libraries mean to them. Please listen respectfully.
You can then ask your Book questions about their story. Please ask questions that are based on what the Book has said.
Please remember that a Book has the option not to answer a question.
There will be two 30 minute sessions: one session at 2pm and one session at 3pm. Readers are requested to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the session.
