Cleckheaton Writers Group minutes, meeting 15 September 2025

Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday evening at Cleckheaton Library with Karen and Reuben in attendance, Molly and Kathy having passed on their apologies.

The minutes from the last meeting were passed.

WIP updates: Karen has written part of a new chapter two for her new YA rom com Touchdown, subbed two manuscripts (MSs) to Heirloom Literary, began a Yorkshire Accountability Group for writers who wish to commit to writing goals each month and submitted her MG fantasy Thorde to Undiscovered Voices. (NB at the last meeting, where only Karen and Kathy were in attendance, Karen had entered the Good Housekeeping competition with her romantic suspense novel Burning for You, sent 3 chapters and a synopsis of her YA MS to Provoco Publishing following a request during #QuestPit, edited chapters of her YA MS Digital Heroin and one of her picture books and started a new rom com, working title Touchdown, which may be a YA, at Holland House writers retreat). Reuben has been working on his YA project rough drafting and world building, which he has written but not typed up.

Competitions/workshops/events: Anna Chilvers Hunters Moon workshops (contact me for details) and 20 September writing workshop 11-1.30pm at Hebden Bridge, Whitby Literature Festival, Newcastle Crime Festival, Bradford City of Culture events, YALC 2025 15-16 November, London, Anna’s MS appraisal sale (see CWG agenda for details) and Library Heritage Open Day 20 September 10-2pm 95th anniversary of the library with a children's quiz, nature trail, ukulele band and sketching.

Writing plans: Karen hopes to submit to One Chapter Books during their open submissions and continue to work on her new rom com. Reuben plans to finish more world building.

Feedback sessions: Karen shared some chapters of her new rom com Touchdown. Reuben felt chapter one did not need any work but chapter two needed some tweaks.

Writing challenge: September theme is Autumn and/or Rain.

Next meeting: Monday 29 September 2025 5.30pm-7.00pm at Cleckheaton Library. New members always welcome.
