Shipley Library Writing Workshops: Structuring a Killer Thriller and Writing as a Business; Social Media, Branding and Building an Audience, Saturday 13 June 2026

My writer friend Lucy Brighton is running two creative writing workshops in Shipley in June with a pay as you feel ticket price, so I thought I would share the details with my followers:

Structuring a Killer Thriller

 Shipley Library, Shipley, BD18 3QH
 Sat 13th June 2026 10:30AM
Join Lucy Brighton for an interactive workshop which will cover: what a thriller is; how to create a gripping plot; creating characters we love and love to hate and writing suspense.

This isn't just theory. You'll get hands-on with practical exercises, shaping your own suspenseful scenes and story ideas as you go, with guidance on pacing, red herrings and those draw dropping moments that every thriller needs.

Who should attend? This workshop is ideal for writers of all levels who are interested in learning how to write compelling thrillers that keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Writing As A Business; Social Media, Branding and Building an Audience

 Shipley Library Business Enterprise Hub, 2 Well Croft, Shipley BD18 3QH ·, LS29 9BN
 Sat 13th June 2026 2:00PM
Join inspirational writer and speaker, Lucy Brighton, as she guides you through the 'business' of being a writer. Lucy burst on to the thriller writing scene last year with a double whammy, releasing a novella What Kind of Name is Lolly Anyway? (Alien Buddha Press) and her self-published debut novel Finding Home in the same month.
Both books were eagerly received on Tik Tok, Facebook and Instagram and within weeks Lucy was touring independent book festivals and literary events, giving talks, readings and organising workshops.
Last month, she followed Finding Home with her brilliant novella, Finding Truth with another title, Finding Grace, to follow in the autumn.
Lucy is a widely published short story and flash fiction writer with a wealth of experience in both writing and teaching.
But more than that she is an expert in social media, branding and building an audience and will guide YOU through the mechanics of getting your work seen.
This event will be held in the Business Hub at Shipley Library and is suitable for anyone interested in promoting their creative work.
