Things to do this weekend in Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, London, Scotland, Ireland and more

Here is my weekly blog post with ideas of things to do this weekend:

Silly Season @ Seven

We're now well into the Silly Season where traditionally nothing much happens, but at Seven we still have some events not to be missed.

On Saturday 9th August 4-6pm,  Summer Saturdays – The Cawood Sicknotes, a swing band from North Yorkshire. Looking forward to banging out some rockabilly, swing-a-billy, and whatever-a-billy tunes to brighten up a summer Saturday. Seven Courtyard unless wet. Pay What You Feel. Organised by Mewl Music.

And on Sunday 10th August, 1.30-4pm,  Jazzleeds – John Settle on Vibes   John Settle plays the vibraphone with remarkable fluency and swing and will play a varied selection of blues, latin, bop and ballads, plus a dip into the great American songbook.  Seven Courtyard unless wet. Pay What You Feel. Organised by JazzLeeds.

Seven will be closed for maintenance from Monday 11th August - Thursday 21st August, reopening on Friday 22nd August at 3pm.

Hi,

Tickets are now available for the Leeds International Chamber Series 2025/26, curated by pianist Junyan Chen

From her first visit to Leeds for the 2024 Leeds International Piano Competition to now returning as curator of the 2025/26 Leeds International Chamber Series, Junyan Chen’s journey has come full circle. This season, titled Route/Root, invites you to explore identity through sound, tracing the paths we travel, the cultures that shape us and the places we call home.

Junyan has selected six deeply personal and eclectic programmes, featuring ensembles that blend Baroque with Nordic folk, French modernism with contemporary spirituality, and much more. Each concert is a reflection of movement and stillness, transformation and belonging, brought to life by extraordinary musicians.

The Man With The Golden Keys

For the past seven years, pianist Tony Kieraldo has brought his distinctive style and dazzling virtuosity to the global stage with Postmodern Jukebox.

Now, he steps into the spotlight for an unforgettable evening of music alongside drummer/vocalist Jack Amblin and vocalist Katherine Lupino.

The center-piece of the night is Golden Keys—Kieraldo’s bold, imaginative reworking of 11 legendary James Bond themes, arranged for ragtime piano and voice.
Set for release in late summer 2025, the album is a sophisticated, high-energy tribute that redefines the sound of 007 while anchoring an evening of live performance that blends vintage jazz with cinematic flair. To celebrate the album’s release, Kieraldo will present a special live show structured in two distinct sets. The first set features vintage jazz classics performed by Kieraldo, Amblin, and Lupino.
A longtime drummer and vocalist with Postmodern Jukebox, Jack Amblin brings his dynamic swing sensibility and infectious charisma to the stage, delivering vocals and rhythms steeped in vintage charm. Katherine Lupino, an accomplished vocalist known for her elegant and captivating performances, adds her signature style and theatrical presence, drawing from her acclaimed London show House of Bond, where she channels the intrigue and glamour of the 007 universe.

The second set brings Golden Keys to life, with Kieraldo leading the ensemble through thrilling new interpretations of Bond favorites. Audiences will be transported into the world of James Bond, where ragtime piano, vintage vocals, and cinematic flair collide in a performance that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly original.

Together, this trio creates a powerful synergy, breathing new life into timeless jazz standards and iconic film music with warmth, sophistication, and showmanship.
Golden Keys is more than just an album—it’s a celebration of timeless style, cinematic storytelling, and musical reinvention. Whether you’re a jazz lover, a Bond aficionado, or simply in search of an evening of captivating live music, this show—and the album that inspired it—delivers sophistication, suspense, and a whole lot of swing.

So order your martini—shaken, not stirred—and prepare for an unforgettable night where vintage jazz meets the intrigue of Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

News

Unsung, an exhibition curated by art market journalist and British Art Fair Advisory Committee Member, Colin Gleadell, highlights Modern British artists whose oeuvres have been overlooked, and are ready for re-evaluation. All the artists in Unsung were proposed by the fair’s specialist dealers, with Gleadell coordinating the final selection.

“Global art market reports have emphasised how, in spite of the slump in high end supply and prices, the lower end of the market appears to be growing particularly for rediscovered artists,” says Gleadell. “Unsung was conceived to draw attention to these two elements at the fair.”

Unsung Preview

During the curatorial selection for Unsung, various themes emerged, making a case for each one of the artists in the exhibition. Discover a first-look of the selection below.

Ray Atkins (b. 1937)

Taught by Frank Auerbach in the 1950s, and admired by Leon Kossoff, Atkins taught fairly consistently at art colleges in Bournemouth, Reading, Epsom and Falmouth. Castlegate House Gallery Director, Steve Swallow, feels Atkins has been unjustly overlooked. “I think his decades of teaching probably impacted his drive for further recognition and limited the possibility of further funding through sales,” says Swallow. “Like many good artists who taught, he just slipped through the net.”

Kathleen Guthrie (1905-1981)

A painter, printer, textile designer, muralist, writer and illustrator of children’s books, Guthrie could turn her hand to any art form, and indeed to any style. Her early work, when married to artist Robin Guthrie, was figurative and decorative, but after she married her second husband, the abstract painter Cecil Stephenson, she turned to geometrical abstractions. Guthrie was multi-talented and versatile, yet being a woman, she never achieved critical status.

Graham Sutherland (1903-1980)

The best known artist in Unsung is Graham Sutherland who joins the group simply because he is currently out of fashion, with most works selling below estimate at auction. Dealer Christopher Kingzett reminds us that “Sutherland was considered more significant than Francis Bacon in the early 50s, and throughout that decade had strong claims to be Britain’s best-known artist.”

“There must be a part of you that’s curious, right? About what it would be like?”

Rafe and Pete have the kind of relationship people envy. Seven years strong, perfectly in sync… except for one little thing. Neither of them has ever been with anyone else. So, when they hatch a plan to scratch their proverbial itch, who better than mutual friend Michael – confident, captivating, and completely unprepared for the emotional entanglement he awakens.

After all, Michael does this…right? And his partner Andy knows… right?

What begins as an intellectual experiment in sexual exploration quickly escalates into a chaotic web of emotional vulnerability, betrayal, and unanticipated desire.

Starring Daniel Bravo, Lewis Cornay, Jo Foster, and Zheng Xi YongJack Sain’s new revival of Jake Brunger’s provocative comedy interrogates the unspoken rules of modern relationships and the fragile balance between intimacy and freedom.
