Keep your heart warm this Decembrrrrrrr with

We are excited to be getting our Warehouse in Holbeck ready for the festive season! The 16th edition of our annual Christmas Fayre will be here soon, we are so happy to welcome you to it, with stalls for some bespoke shopping, live music and delicious hot food all thrown in!

Last minute shopping? Won't hear of it!

Friends, are you able to help?

We are running a fundraising drive (pun very much intended) to support the cost of buying a replacement second hand van, which will be shared with our creative community here in Leeds and beyond on a Pay What You Decide basis.

We purchased our current company van second hand in August 2020, to help keep our food bank operations running throughout the pandemic.
Last year, our company van was out on the road with other artists and community groups for a grand total of 184 days, touring shows across the UK, transporting exhibitions, serving as a mobile film production base, moving large musical instruments, delivering gazebos to local festivals, rehoming furniture and much more. Useful and Kind.

Unfortunately the van has become less reliable in recent months due to a series of engine problems, which impacts how reliably we, in turn, can support our wider artistic community.

If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating via the PayPal button on our homepage here www.slunglow.org

If one of the previous Slung Low vans has been useful to you over the years please consider sharing our fundraising campaign on social media along with any fun adventures you had using the van!

Thank you very much x

"We borrowed the van over 3 weekends…which helped us create and tour our first [Arts Council England] funded street show. Having the van for free, saved us about £500 on our budget which we were able to re-invest into the show through props, costumes and rehearsal time for the actors. It was a gift, and really allowed us to enhance our work. I genuinely think this was the most important in kind support we have ever had, and its significance to a small, growing company, was huge."

Turkey Run 2025 Call Out for Volunteers

We are supporting our friends at Re:establish to deliver festive turkey hampers to families across South Leeds this Christmas. If you would like to be part of the team of volunteers that assist us with the packing and delivery on Monday 22nd December, then pop us an email to info@slunglow.org

Wishing you all the best for the festive season and we look forward seeing you at the Christmas Fayre! Make sure you wrap up warm!

Work has been submitted by anyone creating visual art – painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, film, textiles – whether they consider themselves professional artists or not. Responses to the theme have been varied and fascinating – creating an exhibition of diverse, bold and exciting work which we hope will inspire visitors and present an authentic vision of creativity in Bradford now.

This year’s exhibition is curated by independent curator and researcher Dr Kerry Harker.

Join our North Downs Way Ambassadors this December

Roots & Ways Betwixtmas Walk

Join another of our North Downs Way ambassadors, Roots & Ways, for a betwixtmas walk.

Shake off the Christmas cobwebs and get some fresh air on this peaceful 7km winter walk from historic Chilham into King's Wood and along the North Downs Way. Complete with a visit to the Coppice Oratory and wintry views over Godmersham Park, you'll loop back into the heart of the village and finish at Chilhams’s medieval square.

Our favourite wintry pub walks

With winter in full swing, it can be challenging to find the enthusiasm to swap your slippers for walking boots. Don’t worry, we’ve got the perfect solution: a winter walk that ends in a cosy pub! We’ve rounded up five of our favourite winter walks in the Kent Downs, and best of all, they all include a stop at one of Kent’s fine country pubs.

Explore Kent’s picks for best walks this betwixtmas

Escape the indoors, breathe crisp winter air and discover the beauty of East Kent over the winter break. With its sweeping chalk hills, dramatic cliffs, and charming coastal towns, this corner of England is a walker’s paradise. Whether you’re seeking gentle family strolls or invigorating hikes, East Kent offers walks that combine history, tranquillity and stunning scenery.

Exploring accessible paths at Lullingstone

A beautiful autumnal day was enjoyed at Lullingstone Country Park, as our partners Black Girls Hike and Wild with Wheels got together to explore the new fully accessible path leading from the park all the way to Lullingstone Castle. The group were able to walk and scoot all the way, learning all about the origins of the World Garden.

Photographer Ameena Rojee led the group and gave some photography exercises, instructing us to look out for different textures, as well as choosing a theme such as colour, shape, texture and producing a series of photos around it.

We will be running another joint even at Knole Park in March – watch this space for more details.

This event is part of the North Downs Way National Trail and Kent Downs National Landscape’s Putting Down Routes Project. This is funded through The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Defra’s Farming in Protected Landscapes.

Newly graduated North Downs Way Ambassadors

We were delighted to welcome fifteen brilliant new North Downs Way Ambassadors to the team last month. Following a detailed programme of training from Pied A Terre Adventures, assessment days took place out on the North Downs Way in both Surrey and Kent.

The new ambassadors have a rich variety of backgrounds and interests, and we look forward to them bringing their own individual influence to the North Downs Way National Trail.

If you’re interested in signing up as a North Downs Way ambassador, we are hoping to run another cohort in the spring, so register your interest below.
