It's our favourite time of the year as Widescreen Weekend begins next Thursday!
Enjoy a long weekend of big, bold and wide cinema experiences as we showcase the museum’s fantastic projection facilities with some incredible titles. Highlights this year include Dune in 70mm, a Dark Knight marathon in IMAX, and a deep dive into Korean widescreen so don't miss out on this celebrating the past, present and future of film.
There's a regular programme until then, so make sure to escape the rain with some great new releases, action-packed animation in IMAX and a special Thunderbirds celebration on Saturday.

This winner of the Audience Award at the Berlin Film Festival follows a young couple—Ángela, who is deaf, and her hearing partner Héctor—who are expecting a baby.
Through the clever use of sound and silence, the film immerses the audience in Angela's experience, exploring the struggles she faces given the inadequacies of the world for deaf people, which she now has to navigate as a new mother, as well as the fact that her partner, and potentially her daughter, will never fully understand what the world is like for her.

Bradford International Film Festival Returns
The Bradford International Film Festival (BRADIFF) will return on Tuesday 28th October 2025 at Pictureville Cinema, opening with the UK premiere of I’m Not An Actor (Main Actor Nahin Hoon).
Directed by Aditya Kripalani and starring acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Sacred Games) alongside Chitrangada Satarupa (Tikli and Laxmi Bomb), the India-Germany co-production has already built strong international momentum, with Siddiqui winning Best Actor at the New York Indian Film Festival earlier this year.
The National Science and Media Museum (as part of the Science Museum Group) is an exempt charity as listed in Schedule 3 of the Charities Act 2011 and is recognised as charitable by HM Revenue & Customs.

In her introduction to this rarely-screened cult classic, Alison Peirse asks: what happens when a slasher film is written, directed, edited and produced by women?
Alison Peirse is Professor of Film Studies at the University of Leeds. She is an internationally acclaimed expert on horror film. Her book Women Make Horror: Filmmaking, Feminism, Genre was the subject of a major screening retrospective at MoMA in New York.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to climb one of Yorkshire’s most iconic landmarks…this is it! After years of bad timing and missed dates, I finally got the chance to climb Wainhouse Tower in Halifax at the weekend - and it was every bit as epic as I’d hoped! Standing at 77 metres tall, Wainhouse Tower is the tallest folly in the world. Originally built as a chimney (but never used as one), it’s now a soaring observatory with 369 steps to a panoramic viewing gallery. And the views from the top? Truly unforgettable. Even though we braved the only rainstorm of the day, we still managed to spot Emley Moor Mast, Stoodley Pike, and miles of rolling Yorkshire countryside. And honestly, I think the dramatic weather made it even more memorable! This was a rare opportunity - the tower is only open to the public on select dates, and this year marks its 150th anniversary, so they’ve added some extra Heritage Open Day sessions.
