Music Week @ Seven


It's pretty much music all the way and for every taste this week at Seven, starting tonight, Wednesday 12th November 6-7.15pm with Rush Hour Jazz – Jamie Taylor and Jamil Sheriff,  a duo performance by two musicians who have built strong reputations both in Leeds and throughout the UK. A real treat this one. Seven Bar. 6pm-7.15pm.

Also, tonight, Wednesday 12th November 7.30pm, in a very different tone, Cafe Economique – Energy in the Economy: A Perspective on the Energy Transition is a talk about the fundamental role energy plays in supporting economic activity. Seven Venue. £5.

JazzLeeds – Greg Abate with the Gaz Hughes Trio perform on Thursday 13th November, 7.30pm. US-based musician of international standing, saxophonist Greg Abate is considered to be amongst the finest jazz players of his generation. His fluent and muscular playing is best described as “post hard bop”, encompassing a classic approach to the material in the style of Charlie Parker, Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderley and Phil Woods. Seven Venue. £20/18/10 Concessions for unwaged/full time students.

Every night is opening night for The Totally Improvised Musical on Friday 14th November 7.30pm as as these top improvisers compose brand-new comedy musicals from your title suggestions. If you like musicals; if you like comedy, then you’ll love this. Seven Venue. £12 / £10 conc.

On Saturday 15th November, 4-6pm,  Autumn Sessions – White Sail, a trio rooted in the music of the people and the music of the land, with a heart driven energy in the way they share their music and songs.  Seven Bar. Pay What You Feel. Organised by Mewl Music.

Also on Saturday 15th November, 7.30pmMewl Music – Double Bill: The Heathen Kings and Jacquelyn Hynes. Acclaimed Yorkshire-based traditional and contemporary folk trio join with award-winning Irish flautist for a special double-bill of evocative acoustic music. Seven Venue. Doors 7pm. Adv £12.50 / Otd £15

JazzLeeds – Zoe Gilby on Sunday 16th November 1.30-4pm. Zoë Gilby is a vocalist and songwriter, making a stunning impression on the jazz scene today with an adventurous blend of contemporary composers from Kate Bush to Pink Floyd and the sensitive treatment of jazz standards.  Seven Venue. Doors 1pm. £12 /£10 (conc) / £12 on the door.

Also on Sunday 16th November 7pm,  Flamenco de Leeds – Samuel Moore, get ready to be captivated by his mesmerising music, the multi-award winning flamenco guitarist. With his exceptional talent and mastery of flamenco, Samuel will transport you to the heart of Spain in this concert. Seven Venue. £18.

Rounding off the weekend on Sunday 15th November, 7.30pm, the Sunday Quiz. Test your knowledge in a relaxed atmosphere – a great way to end the weekend with friends. Seven Bar. £5 per team entry. With prizes.
