BREAK-EVEN

Jack Daniels
Sinatra Select

Frank Sinatra was a long time fan of Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and was often seen sipping a glass of it on stage while singing 'Fly Me To The Moon' or 'My Way'. He even kept a stash of the classic whiskey on his private plane to enjoy while on the way to his next show, which would certainly beat a plastic cup of warm wine any day.

Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select has been created in honour of this friendship with Old Blue Eyes. The bold, smooth qualities of the Sinatra Select come from the specially made Sinatra barrels in which part of the whiskey was aged. Deep grooves were cut into the staves of the casks, increasing the amount of exposure the whiskey had to the wood. It is then married with Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 and bottled at 45% abv, which is how Sinatra would have enjoyed it back in the day..

Usual price per shot £25.36

What's On

Wake Up Dead Man

Opening Night Gala: Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

Wednesday 8 October, 20.00

Contemporary cinema’s favourite detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) returns in Rian Johnson’s sharply penned and devilishly fun reinvention of the classic whodunit.

In honouring the spirit of these brilliantly crafted films, we wouldn’t dare reveal any secrets, but the fact that Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery stars Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Cailee Spaeny, Jeremy Renner,  Kerry Washington, Mila Kunis, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church and Andrew Scott, alongside Craig, is a solid lead that you will be kept guessing and wildly entertained with this killer Opening Night Gala.

Love+War

Love+War [Accessible Screening]

Sunday 12 October, 18.00

From the directors of Free Solo comes this blistering profile of Pulitzer Prize-winning conflict photographer Lynsey Addario, a woman balancing two callings: career and motherhood.

Love+War

Hamnet

Sunday 12 October, 19.00

Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao’s adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s bestselling novel features mesmerising performances by Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal.

Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, struggles to come to terms with the loss of their only son, Hamnet – the grief driving a wedge between the couple.

Shakespeare channels the tragedy and his sorrow into his work, creating Hamlet. Zhao (Nomadland, The Rider) brings a rawness and honesty to this profound portrait of love, grief and the power of storytelling.

The Choral

The Choral [Bradford Gala]

Tuesday 14 October, 19.00

Ralph Fiennes leads an excellent ensemble of new and established talent in this funny and moving First World War drama by beloved writer Alan Bennett.

Brimming with humour and hope, Bennett and Nicholas Hytner’s (The Madness of King George, The Lady in the Van) latest triumph celebrates the power of community in the darkest of days.

Filmed across Yorkshire, Saltaire features prominently in The Choral, so don't miss the chance to see locations like Victoria Hall and Salts Mill on the big screen.

The Mastermind

The Mastermind

Wednesday 15 October, 19.00

Josh O’Connor is superb as a rudderless everyman out of step with his immediate environs and the country at large, in Kelly Reichardt’s funny, shaggy heist film.

Reichardt’s (First Cow, Wendy and Lucy) smartly crafted drama offers a sensitive political critique of our times, and a quietly thoughtful examination of what we owe ourselves, as well as our familial and social tribes.

With its jazzy score, period detailing and nuanced performances, it’s a cinematic joy from the get-go.

The Mastermind

Frankenstein

Thursday 16 October, 19.00

Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz shine in Guillermo del Toro’s imaginative and elemental retelling of Mary Shelley’s groundbreaking novel.

Few contemporary filmmakers are as adept at balancing attention to detail and technical prowess with genuine emotional heft as Academy Award-winning filmmaker Del Toro (Pan’s LabyrinthThe Shape of Water).

His take on Shelley’s masterpiece movingly captures the sense of isolation and yearning, while creating a fugue of dread and elemental horror. Goth is outstanding as Elizabeth and Elordi delivers a heart-stealing performance as the monster.

“I laughed out loud throughout, it’s probably Anderson’s funniest movie, and by the end I was so deeply moved I was crying... Sean Penn will win an incredibly well-deserved Oscar. And the action! My god. I haven’t stopped thinking about the car chase and what the camera does.” - Brett Arnold

“What an insane movie, oh my God... there is more action in the first hour of this than every other film [Paul Thomas Anderson] ever directed put together." - Steven Spielberg

Notes on the film from Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio

One Battle After Another

Hear from the film's director and star on this bold new epic

On the impetus for the story…

I started working on this story 20 years ago with the goal of writing an action car-chase movie, and I returned to it every two or three years. At the same time, this was in the early 2000s, I had the notion to adapt Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland, a book about the 1960s, which he wrote in the `80s. So, I was trying to decide what the story meant another 20 years later. The third idea floating around in my mind at the time was a character, a female revolutionary. So really for 20 years I had been pulling on all these different threads, and in a way, none of them ever left me. Realistically, for me, Vineland was going to be hard to adapt. Instead, I stole the parts that really resonated with me and started putting all these ideas together. With his blessing. - Paul Thomas Anderson

On the film’s modern-day setting and locations…

This is the first film I’ve made in a long time that is contemporary, and that’s very freeing. It was a lot of fun because we could kind of go wild and just shoot what we wanted to shoot when we wanted to shoot it, rather than wait for period cars and things to roll up. - Paul Thomas Anderson

On what’s at the core of the film…

As an audience member, what I want to see is a story that I can relate to, that’s emotional. For me, that emotion usually comes from a story about family, from the ways in which we love and hate. I find it fairly impossible to keep up with the state of the world these days, so I think that, for me, it’s better to focus on the elements that never go out of style, that an audience really cares about. For this film that is really two things: Can this father find his daughter, and what does it mean to be a family? - Paul Thomas Anderson

On the scale of the film…

It is big in scale and, it does have certainly those elements and this amazing sort of tension to it that starts from the beginning of the story to the end, and as far as spectacle is concerned, arguably one of Paul’s largest. He shot it on film, in VistaVision. The locations were absolutely incredible. And the action sequences are really bold, but done in a way that is in a Paul Thomas Anderson fashion that is very unexpected.

It's not your traditional action film, it's not something that has CGI or feels manipulated by technology in any way. It's very bare bones, real cars, real environments and situations that feel tactile. It's Paul Thomas Anderson's version of action, which is unique to any other action film that we're used to seeing.

One of the things that I always love in movies, whether it be action or suspense or the resolution of something within a sort of finite world, is when it has your attention from the beginning and it lasts throughout the entirety of the movie. There's not a second that you can take a breath. And those movies really stand the test of time. And Paul really accomplished that in this movie. You're on the edge of your seat from beginning to the end. - Leonardo DiCaprio

On working with Paul Thomas Anderson…

Paul Thomas Anderson, more than anything, drew me to this project. To do this film with Paul is very special. I've been wanting to work with him for 20-some-odd years now, and to be able to do a film about this subject at this point in time is very meaningful to me. He's a filmmaker that as a writer-director has been such a unique and profound voice of his generation, and is one of the great filmmakers of his time. - Leonardo DiCaprio

Dyad Productions' Rebecca Vaughan is... Lady Susan

Sharp, charming, and deliciously devious - Lady Susan is Austen's most captivating creation.

Experience her story brought vividly to life in Dyad Production's one women show!
Book your tickets now

Meet devil-may-care black widow, Lady Susan, (“the most accomplished coquette in England”), hunting down not one, but two, fortunes; oppressed, rebellious daughter Frederica; long-suffering sister-in-law Catherine; family matriarch Mrs De Courcy; and insouciant best friend, Alicia.

Return to the Regency (or rather, Georgian) in this wickedly funny tale of society and the women trapped within it; their struggles, their desires, their temptations and manipulations - and at the vanguard, Lady Susan: charming, scheming, witty, and powerful; taking on society and making it her own. But has she met her match?

Based on Jane Austen’s first full-length work from 1794, the piece is performed by Rebecca Vaughan and directed by Andrew Margerison. This is Austen as you’ve never seen her before...and a show truly not to be missed!

Praise for Dyad Productions:
★★★★★ ‘A towering performance‘ (The Scotsman)
★★★★★ ‘A luscious sweeping tale’ (The i)
★★★★★ ‘Quite simply: astounding’ (Broadway Baby)
★★★★★ ’Outstanding…gripping… Vaughan is never less than magnetic’ (Three Weeks)
★★★★★ ‘If you haven’t seen Dyad Productions’ work before, you simply must’ (British Theatre Guide)
‘Some of the most electrifying character work available, up to and including Berkoff’ (Fringe Review)

The Three Little Pigs is a charming, “very curly musical tail” that brings new life to the classic story with catchy songs, clever rhymes, and heaps of humour.

But it’s not all just fun and games—this version of the beloved tale has something smart to say about home, family, and the power of perseverance.

Introduce young ones to the joys of live theatre while teaching them valuable lessons about determination and team work.

🌟Day 2 – Sunday, Sept 14: Bhoomi Trivedi LIVE

Now put these nights in the Greater Columbus Convention Center, add thousands of people in traditional fits, dandiya sticks flying, dhol beating loud… bro/sis, this is THE Garba weekend.

So get your outfit ready, grab your crew, and let’s dance till our feet give up.
Because honestly, if you miss this one, you’ll just be hearing about it from everyone else.

Weekly Escape

This past weekend, I was kindly invited by GetYourGuide to try something a little different – a 3-hour canoeing adventure along the Ripon Canal with How Stean Gorge, and I just had to share the experience with you!

(As always, I want to be transparent – the experience was gifted in exchange for an honest review on their website, and this email contains an affiliate link, which means I may earn a small commission if you choose to book through it – at no extra cost to you.)

We spent a relaxing few hours paddling down the peaceful canal, with a stunning view of Newby Hall marking our halfway point before looping back. It was remote, quiet, and teeming with wildlife – the kind of peaceful Yorkshire scene that stays with you.

What made it even better was our fantastic guide, Greg, whose passion for paddling was infectious. He not only helped us improve our canoeing technique throughout the trip, but also shared loads of helpful tips on where to paddle near us with our own inflatable kayak and which local organisations to check out for support and supplies.

There were a couple of locks to navigate (cue some teamwork and laughs!), but the sense of accomplishment by the end was so worth it. If you’ve ever thought about giving canoeing a go this is a brilliant, beginner-friendly place to start.

Even better? Your ticket includes entry to How Stean Gorge too! So, after drying off, we headed over for a delicious meal in their café (complete with a glass floor overlooking the gorge 😍) and braved a dramatic thunderstorm to explore the gorge itself. It was one of those unforgettable Yorkshire days – a little bit of everything!

👉 Curious to try it for yourself? You can check out the exact experience I did here! (Affiliate link – I’ll earn a small commission if you book, but it won’t cost you anything extra.)

Have you canoed the Ripon Canal before, or do you have a favourite hidden paddling spot in Yorkshire? I’d love to hear about it, just hit reply and let me know!

Until our next adventure,
